How to change iCloud email address?

I entered a test address when setting up iCloud, but now cannot find out how to change this to the email I would like with the @me.com ending. Any ideas?

While the process of changing the online iCloud ID and deleteing the account from the iPhone works great it really messes up Contacts etc, when you have iCloud sub accounts. The problem is that all the syncing options (Contacts, etc.) default to ON and so all my wife's contacts get instantly downloaded to my iPhone and merged with contacts I have synced to an iCloud sub account (my wife and I share the same apple ID but we don't want to share contacts so I have created a sub account for me to use)

WOW that is brilliant, I never knew about that web address, however.....

I change the @me.com email to the one I wanted and it says it has sent a verification email, but where does that get sent? I doesnt go to the original @me.com email address or the Gmail which I uses as my Apple id 😟

Also, when you changed your did you lose all your contacts & calendar entries??

Thanks 🙂

This worked for me. sign out of your apple id by going to settings, store, then sign out. Then, You go into settings and just delete your icloud account. You do this by going on settings, icloud, and scroll to bottom for delete account. Then you press the button that will let you keep your data inside your phone. Go to settings, store again and sign into it using your apple id (whichever you use) When you get back into icloud through settings, it should already have the apple id (the one you use/want to use) already done. if not, you can actually type it in now so its all good.

The problem started with me because I deleted my old email account and I started using my gmail account for it .I changed the email through the website but it never transferred over to my iphone. It did for my itunes and stuff but not for my icloud for some reason. Then my phone screen broke and i had to ge ta completely different phone and i tried syncing but couldn't So i had to mnaually go to itunes and put everything back into my phone that was last saved in my computer and then do VOT8783's solution.

it works peeps, so try it 🙂 at least it worked for me anyway

Seems that people are mixing a few different issues together in this thread. The original poster I believe was talking about the email account that gets set up along with your iCloud account (not your Apple ID email address). I just had the same issue - I typo'd the name and there is NO WAY to change it. I just spent half an hour on the phone with Apple support. All you can do is create an alias. You cannot even delete the email account and start over. Very aggravating.

I agreed people are confusing the two issues, however if you go to https://appleid.apple.com you can manage your iCloud email address id as below:

Alternate Email Addresses

xxxxxx@me.com Verified

Edit Delete

Cancel Save

The only problem is that a verification email is sent, but I have no idea where it goes to. So it looks as though you kind of can change it, but its of no use because it cant be verified. I have just set up an alias, so much easier 🙂

Yeh, where does the email verification go for your @me.com address?

I changed my private email address no problems now I’m trying to change my @me.com but I don’t know where the verification email has gone.

I would like to get rid of the stupid @me.com address that I created initially. I deleted it in Manage Apple ID but it’s still hanging around. I ain't got a clue what's going here email addresses, ID's - It's all too much for a poor simple fella like me.

The original post here was talking about changing the Apple ID for iCloud. I had the same issue since I just changed the email account used for my Apple ID and I could not change the iCloud login name. Here's what it took to fix it:

First, had to change my Apple ID for the iTunes App. Hit the icon, scroll to the bottom, click the Apple ID: name@email.com button. Click Sign Out, go back to the button at the bottom which is now "Sign In" and enter the new info.

Second, as one of the earlier posts describes, hit the Settings icon, iCloud. Delete account. Go through the steps and enter new info.

Without that first step of changing in iTunes, could not manage to change it for iCloud.

no he's trying, like me, to change the @me.com (and for my issue: @icloud.com) email address, NOT his Apple ID email address.

Changing the Apple ID has been covered in here, but that's not the issue.

Deleting the iCloud account doesnt work as when you enable it again you get back the somename@me.com and/or somename@icloud.com associated with your Apple ID. It is these email addresses used in iCloud that we are trying to change.

Going into Manage Your Apple ID allows you to add or delete them, but when you add a new one where does the confirmation email go to? It doesn't go to iCloud email and nor does it go your Apple ID email address.
