How to change iCloud email address?

I entered a test address when setting up iCloud, but now cannot find out how to change this to the email I would like with the @me.com ending. Any ideas?

I just finished doing this. you have to delete icloud on your phone and any other apple device FIRST. Then go into itunes and change your apple id then go back and add new apple id and re do your icloud. You have to close find my iphone and when you choose to delete icloud it will give you the option to keep all your pics etc currently on your phone/ipad etc. if you change your apple id first, you will not be able to delete the icloud. also it will continue to ask you to log in to your old apple id to close find my iphone. you will have to change your apple id back to the original id in order to do all this. SO DELETE ICLOUD ON ALL OF YOUR DEVISES BEFORE YOU CHANGE YOUR APPLE ID. if you have already changed your apple id, change it back...

OMG!!!! I have been on the phone with Apple tech support for hours... and they couldn't help me, BUT, your post did!!! I can't believe I have wasted so much time on resetting this. I did the 7.1 upgrade last night and it screwed up so when it told me to connect my iPhone to iTunes, it reset my phone. When I tried iCloud, it had an old Apple ID from years ago. I have been working on trying to get iCloud back all day to my phone! Your solution fixed it immediately. I did not log off Apple ID though while I did your process, I kept it open and deleted old iCloud account on phone and immediately swithced my current ID back and verified it. Thanks SOOOOOOO much! BTW, New Hampshire here.... and LOVE Ogunquit as much as possible! Have a great night!

Hi, I'm a little confused.

My situation is I use the same email address for Apple id and for iCloud.

I want to change this email address I'm using with another one, for both services.

If i read correctly you are suggesting to:

1) delete icloud account from all devices.

2) disconnect iCloud account on Mac.

3) turn off find my iPhone.

4) change the email address used for the Apple id.

5) activate iCloud on all devices and Mac using the newly created email address used for the Apple id.

My question would be, when I go and delete the iCloud accounts on all devices, is all the data going to be saved and stored on the cloud and therefore migrated to the new iCloud account when i log in using the new email address or else?

Thanks

If you already changed the primary email address on the icloud website, or your in your ap store settings and are still getting the old apple id in your icloud, . Here's what you do:

2. Go into your iPad Settings; i Cloud. Turn off find my ipad. When it come up to verify your account with the password, it will still have the old apple id.

3. You can not use the old apple id's password. Punch in the new password you entered for your new apple id.

4. That will shut off what is keeping the old id in there.

5. Go to the bottom of the page and hit, Delete Account.

6. Type in the new Apple ID, and password, and WALA! Your in!

I hope this helps out everyone!

This worked! Tried and tried to figure this out and couldn't. Thank you!

Thank you very much.. Like others I tried & tried. Your advice worked !!!! I had set up new Apple ID & password but couldn't sign in to ICloud . Following your instructions solved the problem, though I was concerned about deleting the account . Shouldn't have been, it's not as frightening as the iCloud message suggests. When I got to the stage where I needed to sign in to ICloud to turn off " find my iPad " my old email address was still displayed, but the new password I had set up for Apple was accepted and from then on all was sorted. New email address entered & new account created. At last !!

I tried this but it doesnt work for me. I changed my emailadresse up on Icloud and my apple-id. But my Iphone still wont accept the change and still refers to the old email. I can reset my password, Apple-ID with no problem, and when i got to Icloud on a computer the new email is attached. BUT my Iphone still refers to the old phone and constantly ask for Apple-id. It will not accept my new Apple-ID accepted by everything else but the Iphone. What do i do?

Let's talk about an Apple "account". You have an Apple account that uses an email address as the User ID:

MaryJane@addressa.com

You use this Apple ID for your Apple and iTunes purchases.

You set up an iCloud account to go with this Apple ID:

MaryJane@iCloud.com

Both the @addressa.com and the @iCloud.com Apple account are the same - they are the "MaryJane" Apple account.

If you, at some point change your Apple "account" user name from MaryJane@addressa.com to MJ@addressb.com, then you go into Manage your Apple ID, sign onto MaryJane@addressa.com, and edit your MaryJane@addressa.com user name to MJ@addressb.com. This change to your Appe ID will also change your iCloud ID to MJ@iCloud.com, since your iCloud address is simply the "@iCloud.com" version of whatever your Apple ID user name is.

You can also add alternate and rescue email addresses to an Apple ID, but the Apple ID itself and the iCloud address will always be the same to the left of the @ sign.

Mork@cxxx.edu = Mork@iCloud.com

Cinderella@disxxx.com = Cinderella@iCloud.com

Yoda@starxxx.com = Yoda@iCloud.com

If Yoda changes his Apple ID to Yodabest@starxxx.com, then the iCloud account associated with Yoda's Apple account will also change to Yodabest@iCloud.com

If Yoda creates a brand new Apple ID called YodaMama@starxxx.com, then Yoda will have an iCloud account that goes with that Apple account also called YodaMama@iCloud.com.

The Yodabest Apple account is as different from the YodaMama Apple account as your Apple account is from mine.

Hope that helps,

And just to be clear,

The instructions I provided are for people who have changed the User Name on their Apple account but who did not remove the iCloud account that was under the old user ID for that Apple account before changing it in Manage your Apple ID.

If someone had created a brand new Apple account, then they would have to delete the iCloud account using the password for the other Apple/iCloud account. If they didn't know the password to that other Apple/iCloud account, they would have to sign onto Manage your Apple ID with that other Apple ID and reset it.

Thank you for the clear answer.

But this doesn't really work for me. I changed my Apple ID from MaryJane@addressa.com to MJ@addressb.com so from now on I login with MJ@addressb.com. But I still don't have an email account MJ@icloud.com , I get message send failure when I try to send an email to that address. Do you suggest doing something else than just changing the Apple ID to get my new iCloud email address?

Hi Gail from Maine,

Here is my situation. I have an old Apple ID with no email alias. And the iCloud account tied to this Apple ID is an email address.

Example: Apple ID- Minion, iCloud ID- Minion@gmail.com

To complicate things, the email address (minion@gmail.com) associated with my iCloud's account is also an Apple ID by itself with different sets of info.

I also have two Apple email addresses but forgot how I got them, lol. - myrealname@me.com and myrealname@iclould.com

I do have correct passwords for all so that's not a problem.

What I like to do is to use myrealname@icloud.com for both iCloud and Apple ID on both my iPad Air and an iPhone.

What do I need to do? Ive been reading "how to's" since yesterday and no wiser. I suppose I can make a new Apple ID with myrealname@icloud.com but what about all my apps which is tied to Apple ID- Minion?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm afraid you can't do this. If your Apple ID is a non-Apple address you can change it to another non-Apple address but you cannot change it to your @icloud.com address (@me.com is the same thing). You can open a new account making the @icloud.com address the ID, but you cannot transfer purchases from one account to another.
