I entered a test address when setting up iCloud, but now cannot find out how to change this to the email I would like with the @me.com ending. Any ideas?

Hi magy679,
You cannot change your iCloud email. You can only change the email on your Apple ID. Are you describing the issue where your iCloud account cannot be deleted because it has a different ID than your current Apple ID? If so, see my earlier post with the steps to resolve this issue.
If it is a previous owner's iCloud account, then the only way to get the account deleted so you can sign on with your Apple/iCloud ID, is to contact the previous owner and have them turn off Find My iPhone or wipe the device from their iCloud account.
Cheers,

I have been able the change my apple ID and password. However, I cannot change my icloud ID to match. When I attemp Matts solution I am unable to delete the account because I am unable to turn off the find my iphone/ipad feature. It is prompting me to put in my icloud password and that I cannot remember or reset because that email address no longer exists. Is there any way around or to correct this?
Problem solved! After not moving a muscle ,terrified like a deer in the headlights, not wanting to make a mistake like the dozens of punters seeking a solution on this forum.I noticed that when composing mail the offending unwanted address paired with cloud was replaced with I presume the default address ,for want of a better word? So thus this address had now become the mythical "Alias" address ! Phew I do not recall doing any thing to accomplish this result but I can live with it.I am hoping that this arrangement will not prove a problem down the road when I might pluck up the courage to purchase some music! Yaaaaaaahhhhhhoooo!!Thanks every one! ,!!
If you already changed the primary email address on the icloud website, or your in your ap store settings and are still getting the old apple id in your icloud, . Here's what you do:
2. Go into your iPad Settings; i Cloud. Turn off find my ipad. When it come up to verify your account with the password, it will still have the old apple id.
3. You can not use the old apple id's password. Punch in the new password you entered for your new apple id.
4. That will shut off what is keeping the old id in there.
5. Go to the bottom of the page and hit, Delete Account.
6. Type in the new Apple ID, and password, and WALA! Your in!
I hope this helps out everyone!
Hi Gail from Maine,
I see that you've helped a lot of people here, so I am hoping you can help me too.
I am in the same situation as the others here: I changed the email address associated with my Apple ID. It seems that this change has taken effect on all devices but my iPhone where the iCloud account is stuck with the old email.
I've tried your previously mentioned fix, but it didn't work for me. When I type in the password, it simply tells me that the password is wrong. I've tried changing my password to trigger something to happen, but to no avail. Neither the old password nor the new one will let me delete the iCloud account.
Can you help?
gmarkey's suggestion above is right on the mark. You have to DELETE your iCloud account from your iPhone/ipad in order for the problem to correct itself. It sounds scary, believe me, I hesitated before pressing "delete", but once you do you're taken back to the screen where you enter your Apple ID. THIS is where the problem corrects itself. Enter your primary Apple ID/password, the one from the Apple website, and your device will create the correct iCloud email based on that ID. In my case (because I changed my primary email), it asked me if I wanted to "merge" everything I had in my device to the cloud.
My iCloud now has the corrected email and I'm all set to go:)
Help! Here's what I have done following your instructions, I press "delete account", hit "delete", hit "keep on my iphone" for icloud calendars, etc then the problem.....I get a screen that asks for the password from my old ID in order to turn off "Find My iphone". I tried the password associated with my old ID and the one associated with my new ID. Neither of them work.
My new ID and password are correct and usable from the apple and itunes web site, but I just can't seem to get far enough in the process to change it on my iphone.
Anyone?.....

I made sure that all my information on iCloud is in order on my MacBook and then deleted my old iCloud account from my phone and immediately signed back in with a new email and old password. Nothing was lost, I checked and once I deleted old account, all my contact names were gone, but because they were in iCloud, they came back immediately after I signed back in. Nothing to it...
A trick I discovered about this. Keep putting in the incorrect password over and over till you get a message that says, "do you need to reset your password?" You will get an email link to change the password. This worked for us.
I appreciate your rsponseMy problem is that iCloud has an old, dead email address. I have no problem changing the password for my Apple ID. My problem is that my previous Apple ID is the one now attached to my iCloud. I can't seem to change that.
Ive just spent what was a long time to do this icloud address.
First you have to add your new email address another email in apple ID.
Then you have to change ur AppleID to the new address.
After this you have to delete the icloud from your iphone or tablet then add a new icloud with the new apple ID.
Its taken me about 3 hours to change quite a few settings and confirmation emails back and forth. Think its all working now
I used your fix and it worked changing my icloud email to the one I change on itunes. I used it on my iphone and ipad, but my second ipad isn't being so friendly. It keeps coming up with the sign in to Icloud prompt and I can't get it to stop so I can't do anything else. It's seems to be caught in a never ending loop. Thoughts?
ive changed my apple id because i couldnt login to my email account so on and so on i backed all my data into icloud, erm i realised that all my images were not installed from icloud back up into my phone. I rang icloud they helped me out by advising me to reset my phone to its original setting as in go through the process of retrieving all back up from icloud. Right ..... im trying to follow the steps and because ive changed my email account, it says 'enter apple id password for (.....) to use for store purchases' its showing the old account detail, and theres no way of changing that. So i put my password in and i cant do anything. If ive changed my account detail i should be able to use it as normal. But I CANT . Someone please help me
Make sure you have everything backed up to Your computer, not just the Cloud. I would recommend paying for a bit of Apple support to do this correctly otherwise iBooks may not fully back up. Once backed up go to settings/general/reset
(last on the list). Reset the device and treat it as a new device. Then, DO NOT RESTORE FROM BACKUP. Again, with Apple help, restore what you want to from sections like iBooks AS A NEW DEVICE. Do not use ?"restore from backup." If you restore from backup all the glitches will return. You can choose to get back only what you want from the old backup. All your apps and email will be downloadable from iCloud later. But I seriously recommend you pay the $79 fee to learn how to do it right. After that I was able to fix both iPads and both iPhones with what I learned , and GOOD LUCK!
