How to change iCloud email address?

I entered a test address when setting up iCloud, but now cannot find out how to change this to the email I would like with the @me.com ending. Any ideas?

Hi

Thanks for that. I might well complain to Apple. However, this doesn't help my current situation. I was all ready to sell my phone and upgrade to a 5c. Had actually sold it on ebay and only found out I had a problem when I was unable to erase all contents and settings because the email address which came up for me to enter my password is the old (icloud) one. Although I was sure of the password, it keeps throwing it out.Odd that there's no mention of the icloud settings - it just asks for my password to match the Apple id. So is this really the icloud setting I'm looking at here?

Hi I am having similar problems to you crazycat1. I have just upgraded to 5c and having icloud issues with usernames.

my original appleId was a@hotmail.co.uk, but subsequently updated to b@hotmail.co.uk, with updated password also.

my original iphone was fine with this, it occasionally spouted out a request to log in with my old appleId username/password (the a@hotmail.co.uk) but somehow I got round it.

there was an issue with my icloud on my original iphone, but i deleted the account, then just signed in again to icloud with newer appleId username (b@hotmail.co.uk) with new password and was good to go.

however with new phone the 5c, i could use my newer appleId username/password fine (b@hotmail.co.uk) on the app store and to set it up, but for icloud it keeps asking for password for my old appleId, a@hotmail.co.uk - which doesn't exist anymore! I have tried passwords old and new for the appleId a@hotmail.co.uk and none of them work. when it suggests I reset my password for a@hotmail.co.uk, I do so, and it updates my password for my appleId as a whole, even for username b@hotmail.co.uk, but still can't log into icloud on new phone.

suggestions much appreciated, am going bonkers!

Not sure if it helps, but in icloud.com: click the Mail icon, then the gear icon on the lower left, then preferences option, and finally accounts (the @ icon).

Here you can see all your icloud emails and you can create up to three alias emails. I played around until I found one that was not taken: to have a correct icloud email FINALLY.

When you reply, you can select the alias email.

I Have changed Apple ID etc successfully - my problem is iCloud is asking for email and password verification the password is being sent to an old email address I can't access. I need to know how to delete an iCloud account and set up a new one if I don't have the email and password for the old one. At this stage it is empty so have no data to lose but can't get a new account to purchase into yet can't access old account. Can anyone help?

Thank you ! Je44ery for putting the issue so eloquently ! I have been forced to wade through all this crap "it works" responses ! All because some over paid person decided that if the Apple corp were not going to budget for intelligent design plus a team responding to customer demands for info on how to stick handle their way through this mine field

Of sloppy design! I presume that the wage rate has risen a few rupees since the good old days? I am surprised that Mr

Snowden's old employers have not demanded a quick fix to this problem as like me thousands of potential users have been thwarted in their desire to obtain info, products, services etc, thus diminishing their intelligence gathering capability

Thus opening up the possibility of a funding cut! The near crash and burn of "Obama care" the personal baby of the most powerful person on the planet! Should have been a wake up call ! Please some one mail me correct solution to this silly problem . Thanks.

Hi it\'s Easy,

If you are trying to delete an iCloud account that has your previous Apple ID, here's what you need to do:

1. Go to Manage your Apple ID and change your Apple ID back to the old ID (this is temporary - don't panic). You do not have to worry about verifying whatever ID you put in there becuase it is not permanent

2. Go to Settings>iCloud and scroll to the bottom and click on the Delete option. When it asks for your password in order to turn off Find My iPhone, type in your current password

3. Once the account is deleted, go back to Manage your Apple ID and change your Apple ID back to your current Apple ID

4. Go back to Settings>iCloud and sign onto iCloud with your current Apple ID

Cheers,

GB

This is what I need help with as well. Terrific that it has you change your account- but what if it was changed by mistake, as is the case with me- and you want it changed back?

I wanted my daughter to have her own icloud account. Now she took my account and attached her email to it. I can't get my email account back. When I did, it created a whole new iCloud account with basic capabilities.

FRUSTRATING.
