How to change iCloud email address?

this doesnt work for me, im trying to restore my iphone cuz i need too but i cant cuz find my iphone is on, when i try to turn it off it is using my old apple id, i changed it to a new email address and it is not recognizing it

I have had to change my icloud email address and read through what everyone had posted and thought what the **** just delete account, like many of you have suggested and that had worked for you. Low and behold it worked. It asked me if I wanted to keep the data from the account which I selected yes, and it took a few seconds and came up with the email address I had changed all my other apple log in email addresses to and it asked me do I want to merge the data to this apple ID which I selected yes and that was that all done in two minutes. Thank you all.

This is how to change the iCloud "EMAIL" address without changing your Apple ID used for the iCloud account.

First of all create an alias your-email@icloud.com email address (you are allowed up to 3) by logging onto iCloud.com >Mail >show actions cog (top RH) > Preferences > Accounts > Add an alias > then save.

On your iPhone then go to Settings > iCloud > Account > Advanced > Mail > Email

You now have the option to CHOOSE your-email@icloud.com as the default email address to use for the iCloud account !!!

All recipients will see this email address when sending out email and you will recieve all mail sent to either the original or the alias.

Why is all this Apple Malarky so tough?

I have changed my apple ID in both the cloud and my account...I accidentally deleted Facebook and went to reinstall it on my iPad and on the loud the old I'd still came up and would not let me enter any pass word old or new....how do I get face book back.

So this topic becomes urgent with iOS 7. After I upgraded to the latest software, it wanted my iCloud ID and password, and it forces my old ID. When I try to delete the old iCloud account, it requires an apple ID password with the old apple ID username. After typing the password, it says wrong username or password. How to switch to the new iCloud ID on iOS 7?

Its asking the old itunes email address. I already change my itunes email address coz the old one was hacked. My itunes now on my new email address is working fine. Only on icloud i have problem. I want to change the email address on my icloud as it is the old one. Pls help

I fixed the problem, but it won't work for everyone. Anyway, these are 2 steps that can help.

1. My old apple ID username wasn't completely dead, it was just a deactivated inbox. So I changed my apple ID username back to that email address (which iCloud forced to use after the upgrade). Although it said that an activation email is sent to your email, but I succeeded to enter to iCloud without activation. After that I deleted the iCloud account, then again switched to the new apple ID, and then again entered iCloud with my ID and password.

2. Just try to enter to the app Find Friends with your working apple ID and password. It can help.

Hi aramzey. In my case the email add that i wanted to delete is still asking my password. I keep on putting the password on that old acct but it doesnt accept. I have new acct now for itunes but what i want is to change the email add to icloud to be the same in my itunes. Do you have any idea?

The person who posted the following instructions finally FIXED my issue where I had an old itunes id (which was an old email I didn't have access to anymore) and that somehow became the email used for my iCloud backup. It was easy to change my apple id to a new address I wanted for purchasing new apps and such BUT the iCloud backup email address was grayed out so I didn't know how to change it. I could reset it's password for some because it said my birthday I was entering was wrong even though it was correct. SO I finally just pulled the trigger and did the following

sign out of your apple id by going to settings, store, then sign out. Then, You go into settings and just delete your icloud account. You do this by going on settings, icloud, and scroll to bottom for delete account. It will tell that it's going to delete documents from your phone that are in icloud (to be honest I don't know the impact of this since I didn't have any "documents") Then you press the button that will let you keep your data inside your phone. Go to settings, store again and sign into it using your NEWER apple id (whichever you use) When you get back into icloud through settings, it should already have the apple id (the one you use/want to use) already done. if not, you can actually type it in now so its all good. then it will ask if it should merge whats on the phone with the icloud account, i clicked yes, MERGE. Now all is golden and I have 1 email account for apple store id as well as icloud backup

How about email that my icloud account is attached to no longer exists. Also because it has been so long I no longer remember the password. i could change things but can no longer remember the password and because the email no longer exists...apple can not email me a new one! Help

I spoke with the apple support today and was advised to save all my data to my iphone, and then I would be able to change my iCloud email address...

However, my iphone has been "locked up" on the 1st thing i chose to save, my contacts, for 5 hours!!! I am attached to wifi and see no end in sight...

I have an iphone 4S, ios 6.1...was hoping to do the ios 7 update!

Anybody else have this problem when saving to phone?

Having the same prob as cathawks, pop up for icloud says "sign in" but the id is an old email address though everything is current and works with my password. I went into messages and put "send and receive" to my current email and prob continues. Anymore suggestions anyone?

This was an easy fix. I called support and we had it resolved in 5 min. Log into https://appleid.apple.com/ with your current account, Change your email back to the old one your phone remembers and log out (thats important) Useing your current password log int the cloud with the old email. Now delete that account. No impact to the content in the iCloud, it only delets it from your phone. Now go back to https://appleid.apple.com/ and change the email address back to what ever you want it to be. (log out) Now back to the phone and log into the cloud with the new email address.....

I have done everything that was recommended. When I attempt to delete the iCloud account it asks me to enter my apple id password to turn off 'find my iPad' but it's associated with the old id so when I input the password it doesn't work. It says that my id or password is incorrect, which is true because it's forcing me to use the old id.

Any thoughts?

Been reading through this thread. I have the same problem. I dared to change my email address and so now can't access the cloud on my iphone, but it's happily accepting the new email to sign into the cloud on my PC. Surely the rules don't change just because I'm not on my iphone? So now how do I create an alias to get round this when I can't even sign into the mail?
