Internet browser slow after 10.6.8 update - it is not the connection

I did the same thing on Saturday, and that worked for me as well. I have the new mid 2011 27 inch core i7 iMac, and the newest 13 inch macbook air. I experienced extremely slow loading times on both units when I updated to Os 10.6.8. I did not experience any slow down when surfing on my iPad 2 or iPhone 4, which is why I have chosen to update the dns servers on my desktop and laptop but not on the router, which is another option that is described on opendns.org.

I really think everyone experiencing these problems should use this as a temporary/permanent fix.

Have the same setup (Comcast, mid-2010 Macbook Pro, SBG901) and disbaling IP Flood Protection under the router settings helped. Thanks!

This fixed it for me too. Strange thing is that the problem only occurs on one specific Mac, the others I use(all under 10.6.8) work fine without manually specifying a DNS. Main software difference is that the one which had the problem has Parallels on it.

If it is Parallels, it has to be very platform specific.

My iMac and my MBP both have Parallels installed

and I am having no internet issues with my AES,

either from OSX or from Windows within a virtual machine.

However, it could have to do with how networking is

set up in Parallels for the VM. All my VM's are configured

with independent MAC addresses and not sharing with the

host machine.

Using my home network (wireless), the i5 MBP gives problems so fixed that with the public DNSs in combination with Airport, other computers (MB Air, Mini, older MBP) all work fine on the same wireless network using the home router as default.

Currently at work in an office using a fixed ethernet connection and the internal corporate DNSs: no problems.

Same issue on my Macbook pro. I downgraded back to 10.6.7 after trying many other things and this ended up working.

Sorry, not too techy - how do I go back to 10.6.7 please?

I've tried most of what is mentioned in this thread with only a minor improvement.

I had the snow leopard install CD that was 10.6.7. I just re-installed the OS from the CD and it appears to have reverted me back from 10.6.8 to 10.6.7. Hope this helps.

Before I do this though, does anyone know if upgrading to Lion will cure this problem?

I ended up answering my own question. I upgraded to Lion and the problem persisted.

I followed another posting about the same problem which had a link to a troubleshooting page by Apple.

From there I learned to turn IPv6 off and now all is fine.

Reinstalling 10.6.7 did not change anything other than affording snappy performance again.

Just reinstall 10.6.7 from your install disk. Restart your computer holding the C key and reinstall. This procedure did not change anything else on our computers.
