Internet browser slow after 10.6.8 update - it is not the connection

I have just updated to OSX 10.6.8. After that Safari and Chrome seams to be very slow to access all kind of address. The network connection is ok and emails are coming at normal speed in outlook for Mac. Using speedtest.net I got a download rate of 11 Mbps but the pages seams to load very slower then before. Any Ideas on how to solve it? I have a mbp 13" 8Gb core i7

I have the same problem on my MacBook Pro. All downloading, be it e-mail or web pages, is extremely sluggish, some webpages taking more than one minute to fully load. And printing has become a drawn out process as well. Since my iPhone is working super fast off the same WiFi connection, it can't be the internet. And the internet is super fast when I boot the MBP in Windows. Ergo, the only conclusion I can make is that the 10.6.8 update is the culprit.

I hope that Apple corrects this problem soon. I read on another website that a tester had reported this problem before the release of the update but was ignored. Hum...

I have the same problem on both my Mac Pro, and 2010 MBP. Done all the cleaning stuff using Snow Leopard Cache Cleaner.

I don't have too little disk space.

I'm reluctant to reinstall because I really don't want to reinstall all my applications (Cossover Games and VMWare are the biggest problems) and If I back up my whole user profile and reinstall it, I'm concerned that I'll reintroduce the problem...

Can anyone point me to a good reinstallation guide which allows you to transfer your old installed apps?

Hello,

I have to MacBooks (one from 2007, one from 2010) and the newer was affected by slowness in logging in, unlocking and use of Safari, etc once logged in. If I was connected outside the home or via ethernet I was fine.

My issue ended up being related to my wireless router as once I disabled IP Flood Control from the Motorola SBG901 firewall/router, it all was resolved and solved some intermittent issues I had with browsing just from Mac's (PC's were unaffected). So maybe this update is doing some sort of lookup/etc and its hanging on the intermittent network connection? Definitely a bug that needs to be fixed.

Hope this helps other,

Larry

I was finally able to narrow down the problem to my Airport Extreme. Using Speedtest.net, I was able to measure the Ethernet connection at 25-30 mbps whereas with the Airport at max 1.5 mbps. True, WiFi is going to be slower than Ethernet but a drop of 95%???!!! At any rate, I solved the problem by connecting via Ethernet but still having WiFi for when I move around the house with my laptop (as well as for my wife's laptop -- she doesn't do any high volume downloading).

I'm running a Penryn 2.4 Ghz dual Macbook Pro and as soon as I updated to 10.6.8 everything web related slowed WAY down. I use Firefox most of the time and it has been extremely slow and often locking up. And when it locks, the whole machine locks. I can still move the cursor, but nothing else functions. Have to hold down the power button to force a shut down. It's happened several times.

Have my early2009 iMac connected wirelessly to my

Airport Extreme and am having no slowdown in any internet

access with 10.6.8. Service provider Comcast.

On my Mac, I have Configure IPv6 set to automatic.

I also have my Airport Extreme set up as the DNS server

for the network and allow it to receive the DNS from the ISP.

The Extreme is also the DHCP server.

On the extreme, wireless setup is:

Radio mode: automatic

Radio Channel selection: automatic

Wireless security: WPA2 Personal

guest access is disabled.

The extreme is configured via DHCP from the

ISP through the cable modem.

Also IPv6 is set to link-local only.

Not sure if any of this information will be of help,

but at least with my set up there doesn't seem to be

any issue.

PS. Also, my 2011 13" BP i7 is also at 10.6.8 and am

having no internet speed issues over wireless.
