I have a macbook pro i7 17inch mid 2010 model. 10.6.8 I dim my screen all the way down (backlight off) then it brightens by itself and when i press a key or the pad the screen turns off. recently this has started and gets annoying because i leave downloads going or sometimes on and when i come back the screen is on the screensaver and when i perform the actions stated above the screen backlight turn off.

Did you get it fixed yet? I am going through the same issue, I just bought a brand new screen thinking it was the bulb that went because the former owner said it happend after a drop, and the new screen is the same issue. I think it is the inverter from what I read somewhere else. I ordered one for $10 with shipping, hopefully it will fix the issue.

Yes my issue was the logic board. I replaced the logic board for the second time and it fixed the issue. On my macbook pro the inverter was built into the LCD so after replacing that a second time I figured it had to be the logic board. An inverter is much cheeper than a logic board so you could always try that first. The logic board cost me 450 on ebay. I did bump up the CPU to a faster one so at least something good came out of it 🙂
