You cannot create chapter markers in Final Cut Pro X. You have to buy another piece of software, Compressor 4, to add chapter markers to content you first export out of FCPX. But you will not see chapter markers inside FCPX. Unless Apple changes its mind and adds it back in.

Why? It makes no sense. Other than Apple wants you to spend more money on more software, for clunky, downgraded functionality at best, which used to work just fine in the previous version.

You can still add them in Compressor. I know they should be there in FCPX but, theres your answer for the moment.

I tried it with Compressor 4. And it also fails. The output of Compressor had no chapters. 😟

Apple already produced the same crap at iMovie'08 (the successor of iMovieHD) release. iMovie'08 had also no chapter marker function.

I hope we must not wait for FCP XI until this standard function is available in FCPX.

I completely can not understand Apple having Chapter Markers missing at release of FCPX. I am thinking about changing to Premiere Pro.

Let's hope this comes with the next update.

i figured it out, in text edit do the fallowing

00:00:00:00 Midnight Sky

00:00:10:45 On the Train

00:00:23:04 etc....

thats the timing for the markers to show up, you then save it as 'whatever.txt'

then in Compresser 4 you click on the marker button on the bottom right side under the video preview scree, and click on 'insert chapter list...', then navigate to the destination file, and then you should see markers on the timeline

how i got it to work after i was done saving, was saving it as the original file type,

for me it was 720 HD Video Sharing, and in Finder it recognized the chapter markers, as well as in iDVD
