Let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.

Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:

http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:

http://www.rarlab.com/

Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").

Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.

Does it install properly for you? If so, does iTunes launch properly now?

If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

I have the same problem and follow you recommendations till to the step:

"Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install"

Unfortunately after that I got the pop-up window with the message "A later vesrion of Apple Application Support is already installed on this computer". At the same time I have the empty directory "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support".

What I need to do?

Thanks in advance!

That's a rarer one (in this particular context), Yuri. (Periodically over the past few months I've been musing over why that sort of thing doesn't hit AAS as often as it hits other components. I think it's because recent versions of AAS use slightly different installer technology than the other components.)

At any rate, unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25 2010. First we have to find a copy of the utility.

Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (The results from mydigitallife and Major Geeks are worth checking.)

After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)

If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.

Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Application Support entries and click "Remove".

Quit out of CleanUp. Restart the PC, and try another Apple Application Support install. Does it go through properly this time?

I have tried b noir's solution - to use Windows Install Clean Up to remove AAS, but:-

1. it doesn't find AAS which (obviously, or I wouldn't be here...) found among list of programs to uninstall

2. no apple folder in C:\Program Files\Common Files

so I can't remove the rogue AAS file/registry entry to remove the "A later version of AAS is already installed" problem.

Any suggestions please?
