I found that the number of Facebook albums in my home computer iPhoto program were becoming cumbersome, so I began deleting them off my computer. About halfway through, I realized that I was also deleting them off my Facebook photos. Could you explain why I have to have the album in my home computer for the album on Facebook to be visibie? And how to delete the album off my home computer and leave them on Facebook? I'm on 10.5.8, iPhoto 8.1.2 (424).
When you are logged into Facebook from IPHOTO, it is providing the photos through Facebook, not physically on your computer. So any changes will be shown on Facebook do that, to have your IPHOTO and Facebook in sync. The album is only stored through IPHOTO as a link, not physically on your computer. If you dont want them on your computer, sign out of Facebook through IPHOTO and they will be gone.
Thank you, Whitewater2, for responding. However, I don't understand. I never log into Facebook through iPhoto. I always log in through my browser (Firefox). I do upload photos from within iPhoto and I post some to Facebook using the iPhoto icon. How do I sign out of Facebook through iPhoto?
To do this click on iPhoto > Preferences once in the Preferences window click on the Accounts Tab and find Facebook in the listing on the left.
Once you find it select it and press the minus button on the bottom of the list to remove your Facebook account from iPhoto.
I will try this. Once I have done it, what will happen the next time I try to upload a photo to Facebook? Will it again add the Facebook account in iPhoto? And if so, how to avoid this?
At some point you logged into Facebook within iPhoto to post pictures. If you take the account out you will obviously lose that option until you add your Facebook credentials again. Then you will have all your Facebook albums accessible again. I am not sure I understand what you want to do. Is it eliminate the photos from Facebook ?
You cannot post to Facebook without adding your account within iPhoto. There are other programs that will do it without the iPhoto interaction.
I would like to preserve my photos on Facebook, while at the same time deleting all the albums "Facebook" off my iPhoto. (I really hate the clutter.) From what you have said, this is impossible. Perhaps I can load future photos to Facebook from within Facebook, and not from within iPhoto, by copying the photos I wish to upload to the desktop first (although this is going to be a hassle). So my new questions are:
1- Can I do that and therefore avoid having any liaison between Facebook and my computer?
2- Can I somehow restore the albums back to iPhoto that I deleted earlier?

Hey no problem. Just trying to help you out. You can remove your account from iPhoto and they should not be deleted from your Facebook. They only get deleted from your Facebook when you delete the photos in iPhoto when your account is linked to it iPhoto. I just did it on mine and here is the warning message I received
"48 albums will be removed from your iPhoto library. They will still be visible on Facebook. Photos downloaded from Facebook that have not been imported will be moved to the iPhoto trash unless you choose to import them."
Answer to your questions in order; and a question from me to you.
1. Yes you can load from within Facebook if the photos are on your computer in a normal folder or exported from iPhoto to a folder.
Question; How do you manager your photos? All through iPhoto or create a seperate folder for them? If they are just in a folder before you put them in iPhoto, then you can use a third party program such as COURIER to batch upload to Facebook without any problems like you are having with iPhoto. If they are not, you would have to export the photo from iPhoto to a folder and do the batch upload from there, this is what I would suggest for you. I do a combo of this method.
2. Did you Empty the iPhoto trash folder yet? If not then you can restore them, if you did, then unless you have a time machine backup available, I think they are gone forever. To see if you did, then open iPhoto, click iPhoto and you will see Empty iPhotoTrash either as an option or greyed out, if its greyed out, then you already emptied it. If it is an option, do not click on it. In iPhoto you will see a TRASH option on the left, and all your photos will be there, you can restore the photos you want from there.
One problem with your suggestion about logging out of iPhoto and then deleting the albums: I have read in other forums that this can be done, but as soon as you log in again from iPhoto to Facebook, the program will update and delete any albums off of Facebook that iPhoto does not find in an album in iPhoto in the Facebook section. Do you disagree?
Answers: 1. I manage all my photos through iPhoto, but I could change my habits. On the other hand, I read that Courier does the same thing that iPhoto does with the albums on Facebook. But I suppose this would annoy me less, because I wouldn't see all of them everytime I open iPhoto, because the links and also photo copies would be inside a folder on my desktop or wherever I choose to put it.
2. No I did not empty the trash, but I looked and the albums and photos are not there. But I know why: I read on another forum that these albums are not actually full of photos. They only contain links to photos elsewhere. When you delete the albums, you are only deleting the links, not the photos themselves. That explains why they are not in the trash.

It is very simple - as noted in the instructions and advertising the iPhoto/Facebook interface syncs the two - any changes made in either is reflected in the other - that is the way it works
While there are ways to try to best the system the real answer is if you do not want that then do not use iPhoto to upload to facebook - use the web interface or another upload process - if you want a very simple and straight forward system where iPhoto and Facebook match each other then use iPhoto

Like LarryHN and I have been stating, DO NOT USE iPhoto with Facebook. It is not working the way that you want it to, but it is working the way it is intended to. You cant have it both ways to turn it on and off and not have any problems.
Courier APP does not do the same thing. It does not store your photos like iPhoto, it is simply an uploading tool. Or just use the Facebook uploader, there are plenty of options, Courier is just one of them.
And the trash, means you emptied it otherwise you would be able to restore the photos (or link to them) if you delete them. Delete one photo now, and you will see it in the trash.
Thanks to both of you for the tips. However, I must insist that I did not delete anything from the trash. Please see my comment earlier about the albums being merely a link, and not the photos themselves. In any event, I can assure you that I did not empty the trash, and the album contents are not there.
Unfortunately, I believe the photos are gone. Any time I delete a photo from iPhoto, it goes into the iPhoto Trash (not the recycle bin). I just deleted one photo and an event, and all of that showed up in my iPhoto Trash.
You are correct when you delete the photos themselves. If you delete a photo, it appears in the trash. However, when you delete an "album" under the Facebook link, you only delete the link, even though it looks like you are deleting photos. In fact, the photos are situated elsewhere, and what you are looking at (or through, if you will) is a link. Therefore, when you delete albums under Facebook, no photos appear in the trash. That's the explanation.
Ok now I am understanding what you were talking about. Sorry, I was just talking about an event not in Facebook. I apologize. I was deleting albums not linked to my Facebook account.
My albums dont show in iPhoto unless I click on my facebook account on the left. They dont show in my Faces/Events.
