I am working with Eclipse, which creates files like .project and .classpath, which I am seeing neither in the Finder nor the Terminal.
And I cannot find a setting that would make them viewable.
Is there such a setting?

Just be aware that there are other hidden files and folders on your system that SHOULD NOT be messed with. Be careful.
In terminal you can perform a:
"ls -a"
and you will see the list of all your files, hidden files included. for more information about the ls (list directory content) command, "man ls"
