No. You need to install it from the 10.6 disc.

Is it some how possible that your machine still has the PowerPC framework files??

Also what version of the Final Cut suite are you installing? Apple said that Final Cut stuido 3 could install fine.

This is pretty big news for FCP editing world if this really does work.

I'd try myself but currently don't have access to my Final Cut Studio 2 discs.

This is a brand new machine, bought on Sept 2 from the local Apple Store. It came with Mac OSX 10.6.7.

After setup I ran Software Update to get 10.6.8.

Installed FCS3, iWork 09 and a few other things.

Ran Software Update again.

Loaded and installed Lion from the App Store with my free up to date code.

Transferred my user data from the old Mac -Docs, photos, music etc.

No software was copied from the old Mac. All fresh installs.

At this point I realized that LiveType would be nice to have -I have hundreds of LT projects.

Tried the FCS2 Installer and was told off by the Mac.

Back to the 10.6 installer disc and clicked the Rosetta installer. No complaints from the Mac.

Activated the FCS 2 installer again and installed LT and the LT Media.

So it worked for me. No complaints or crashes, everything seems to be running well.

I have a couple of gripes with Lion but that's probably just because it does a few things differently and I have yet to get used to them

Wait, you installed most of the FCS3 suite and then went back and installed FCS2's version of LT? Am I reading that correctly or was that a typo?

I have a college friend who has Lion installed and we were able to install Rosetta from a 10.6 disc. When I get my FCS2 discs he and I will see if it's possible to install FCP6.

I installed all of FCS3.

Live Type is no longer included in FCS3 which is the reason that I installed it from FCS2.

I would love to hear if all of FCS2 installed successfully, and if everything is working properly.

I just installed my Final Cut Studio 2 on a new Mac Mini 2.3 GHz Intel Cord i5 with 8GB of RAM.

The above method works. Using the Snow Leopard install disk, I just installed Rosetta (I think it was in a separate folder called optional installs or something like that)

Once Rosetta was installed, I just went through the entire install process for FCS 2. Took forever with disk sharing and a toddler intent on messing with mice, keyboards, etc.

Just played around a bit with some XDCAM footage in Final Cut. Haven't done any real editing, rendering, or export yet. But, it seems to work.

So, have at it.

I had fc2 installed before i merged over to lion and final cut worked just after the lion install. however before i did a lion install i did a time machine back up and then installed my backup on the new version of lion. FC2 worked fine on lion. Now that i got my macbook pro back from applecare and tried to re install fcs from my back up dmg on my hd its saying that the mpkg file isnt supported. I think that having snow lepard and then doing a time machine back up and installing the backup on lion will work just fine cause it worked fine for me; that includes editing exporting and all the other stuff worked just fine.

I can confirm this. I was working on Leopard 10.5.8 with FCS 2 (with FCP 6.0.6).

Recently I purchased Snow Leopard and created a second boot disk because I knew I would still need my Leopard OS for certain things. So I installed FCS 2 on the Snow Leopard OS. Once Lion came out I upgraded via the APP store. I can still use FCS 2 just fine (except for Cinema Tools! Just crashes if you try to open). But that's what the time machine backups are for. And I've got separate backups for each OS. I just flip back and forth as needed.

It's annoying, but that's the position we're in today with the way Apple has managed upgrades with OS and software that is no longer supported.

This method also worked for me.

I installed Rosetta from the SL optional installs DVD. Ironically, the Final Cut Studio suite worked in Lion on my old machine, but I couldn't install it on the new machine because the Installer was PPC.

So, install Rosetta from SL, check.

Install FCS 2 in Lion, check.

I still can't run older programs in Lion, but somehow the old installer works. I'll take what I can get.

There r two things u can do.. First: install final cut on a sl partition and boot to it when u need to edit and that will work. Second thing is to install sl on ur machine and then install fcs on that, test it and then install lion over sl and not as a clean install over sl. I did this this way and fcs works just fine on lion with no problems. Installing Rosetta off sl cd to install fcs isn't worth the aggervation; in my opinion..

It takes about 20 seconds.

it takes 20 seconds to find a SL cd and search for rosetta, then installing rosetta and figuring out how it works for someone who has never used it before because auto un packaging.

There is no figuring out. It works in the background as and when needed -you don't have to do anything.
