Final Cut Pro X doesn't let me save to an external hard drive but it does let me import from this drive. I need to know how to save my folders to the external and not the internal. iMove and Final Cut Pro 7 both are letting me but not X. I need help.

The easiest way is to Select the drive in the Finder, Cmd-I, and check the box that says "Ignore ownership on this volume".
Hey Luis. I tried to change the settings in My passport info, but there's no selection for that. Under Sharing & Permissions it says "you can read only". I'm using my wife's 500GB WD that she had previously been using on my PC's. I just realized it's formatted for windows NTFS. Not sure how to change this. I'm assuming once I do, that the option to Ignore ownership will show up.
OS X cannot natively write to NTFS formatted disks. You'll either need to install third party software, or reformat the drive. You could format it as ExFAT, which would be writable and readable in both macs and pcs, but for use with FCP X it is recommended or required that you use a mac os extended format (journaled or not).
