Final Cut Pro X saves projects unreliable

I have no idea, if and when FCP X does actually save projects. When I quit it, I loose at least the last 10-15 steps, when it crashes sometimes even more work.

How can I be sure, that FCP X DOES save my work when exiting the app?

Final Cut Pro X, Mac OS X (10.6.8), MacPro QuadCore

You're the first. I and many other editors here locally don't lose anything at all. When it crashes, if we do a Force Quit, and when we quit properly, not a single thing is lost. Are you sure you're losing that much? I've not seen a system yet doing that. FCP X uses Lion's new permanent save state, it's saved every move you make, not at timed interverls.

I don't know where it saves this - my project resides on a faster internal disk other than the system's harddrive. Everything works great with FCP X but saving:

I suppose we're both talking about the "CurrentVersion.fcpproject" in the project's folder ... I've just changed a little detail in my project and it still says, the last altered version of this file is back from 2 hrs from now!

What can I do??? I am really desperate in a hot project ...

... I loose almost 1-2 hrs of work with each crash or quit.

btw. The same occurs with the event-file on the same disk.

You aren't the first to have this problem. There are many threads about this already. The hint that auto-save has stopped working seems to be that you can no longer Undo -- the UNDO menu item becomes grayed out.

My advice to you is to check that menu item frequently, and if it is grayed out, quit and relaunch. hopefully you won't have lost too much.

As a tip, make sure you have plenty of space available on both your main drive, and the drive your event/projects are on. At least 25GB each. That may help.

I have the same problem. I'm still experimenting, so no production lost, but I did lose quite some steps of a project I'm working on.

Cmd-Z (Undo) is greyed out and even quiting FCPX normally does not save the project in its last state.

The original clips are on a network drive. I chose the option not to copy them to the event folder.

In my opinion it's the transform and crop command section. Whenever you touch these two in one step to alter a clip or image, the app stops to save.

I am 100% sure about that, because you can drag, copy, paste, and whatsoever - but the app saves every step of these alterations!

Apple’s developers cost me three full nights of pointless work, I am a beta tester who paid for the app.

FCP X is stunningly good, but not well tested. Apple, you owe me one.

I'll join this club. Just got through working on a Motion title template, making numerous refinements, had 3 titles all filled in nicely and working in FCPX. Decided to quit FCPX to try to clear up a preview issue with the new title template. When I reopened, the titles were all blank. Not good.

OSX 10.6.8

When the "Undo" menu entry becomes inaccessible, beware.. .you will lose work.

I agree. I have not lost a single thing and I only crashed one time because I tried to open an incompatible plug in. Maybe because they use older laptops. I have a 2.3GZ Core i7 MAcBook Pro with the latest Lion. Apple makes all these programs testing the latest hardware, so I think the issues come from older hardware, whch *****, but that is the way it goes.

So far its been working great for me... Just finished a 15 minute short film.
