Compilation Artists Don't Show Up in 'Artists' - Fixable?

I have a number of multi-CD sets I've marked as "Compilations" when I've imported into iTunes.

Trouble is, when I'm scrolling through my iPod and I want to find that one song - well, if it's in a compilation, I have to know which compilation it's in to pull it up. I can't search under "Artists" to find it. That is, the artist doesn't appear at all under "Artists".

Is there a way around that? I'd like ALL artists to show up under "Artist".

Couple of other odd things:

1. You CAN search under "Songs" for that particular song. Just not the artist.

For example:

"That's When I Reach for My Revolver" by Mission of Burma is on a Compilation.

If I search for "Mission of Burma" under "Artists" on the iPod, nothing.

If I search for "That's When I Reach..." under "Songs", it's there.

2. If there's ALREADY other music by that artist, the song WILL appear under "Artists".

For example:

"I'm In You" by Peter Frampton is on a Compilation.

I have Frampton Comes Alive! loaded on the iPod.

If I go to "Artists"=>"Peter Frampton", there's all of Frampton Comes Alive! AND the Compilation; clicking onthe Compilation brings up "I'm In You"
