Those aren't the root levels. You're showing me what's in the FCP Events folders. Can you show me the Movies folder? One back from where you are in the bottom image.
Wait I see. MediaRAID is the boot drive. No, the events at the root level of the system drive will not appear. On the boot drive that has Users only the Movies folder is seen. Not sure why you've named another drive System Drive when it's not carrying the system you're booted on.
OP, Sorry to jack your thread...
Hi Tom,
First, thank you very much for helping me with my problem.
My boot drive and user drives are separate.
/Volumes/MacHDD - boot drive (actually an SSD)
/Volumes/MediaRAID - user and data drives (dual 4TB RAID0)
/Volumes/Scratch - data drive (dual 4TB RAID0)
What I am seeing is that
1) I can not store any data on /Volumes/MacHDD at all
2) I can not store any data on /Volumes/MediaRAID at the root level, only in ~/Movies
It would be VERY nice if FCPx allowed me to store data on the boot drive (MacHDD) and at th root of my user drive (MediaRAID).
Do you know how to get this feature request into the next release?
Thanks!
BTW, iMovie lets me store Projects and Events on any disk I want.

You can't do this with FCP. The users have to be on the boot drive. You can put users on MediaRAID, but then you can't have anything at the root level. FCP will only look in one location. If users aren't on the boot drive, it's useless to you for FCP, which it should be anyway. All your projects and events should be on MediaRAID. Not sure what advantage you hope to achieve by putting Users on a secondary drive.
Use feedback in the FCP menu.
You can store projects and events on any Nac formatted drive as long as the drives are correctly configured. Again projects and events are normally not stored in Users on the the system drive where the OS configuration places them.
Tom,
I will use the feedback menu.
FYI I keep users on a separate drive because the boot drive does not have enough room. Not all SW is capable of relocating its storage to other drives.
Thanks for your help.
Not all SW is capable of relocating its storage to other drives.
I don't know what this means. Users are a part of the OS and should be maintained on the system drive. Individual content for each user can be kept on a separate drive. Many people use separate drives for Documents, Aperture and iPhoto libraries, and of course for FCP events and projects, but the Home users should not be aliased on a separate drive. Many system functions rely on accessing user preferences content and user application support from the system drive. If your system drive isn't sufficient for the basic operational requirements of the OS you should really think about installing a larger drive.
"Home users" should not use imove?
I have an SSD in the system and do not want FCPX this constantly writing in the renders, he can not change the site folder, this is a big step back from FCPX.
Sorry for my English I'm Spanish
I'm looking for a solution to the problem of changing folders of events and projects.
I can not keep working like this and I feel the only option to go back to FCP.
FCPX has improved a lot, and other fundamental worse for professionals.

You should take the time to learn about how media is managed in FCP X 10.1. It is fundamentally different from 10.0.x. This is an old thread and what was being said no longer applies to the current version.
thank you!
after 3 years I have decided to switch to FCPX but I ignored that resolved the problem.
Could you tell me where I can inform of the new solution.
thanks
Tom, I am tryn to do what was mentioned above to move an event from my almost full hard disk to an external hard disk that I pluged it in my mac pro using usb 3.0 port. "From within the Events Manager, select the event you want to move, then go File > Move Event. It will prompt you to select another hard drive."
When I highlight an event go to file>move event.... the prompt keeps telling me "no value", although 2 external hard disks are connected using 3.0 ports.... any help.
my hard disk is full, I'm tryn either to create event on external hard disks or maybe on a shared network acces storage that we have in the network, nothing is working.
What version of the software are you using? How are the drives formatted?
Please understand that this thread is really old…and the application has changed tremendously during that time. Hard to see wherethe quote referencing event manager has little if any relevance to recent versions.
Why not start a new thread where you provide your system specs and FCPX version and get advice relevant to your situation?
