I am unable to install updates of 768mb after a recent OS reinstall on my iBookG4 with Leopard installed over the original Tiger. The process locks up at "configuring installation". What can I do please?

Does the iBook work okay with the version of Leopard that's currently installed?
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop then click Get Info.
See: Capacity & Available. Make sure there's at least 15% free disk space.

The updates that I need are all those that were deleted once I did the fresh install. I did not reinstall the previous iteration of OS on the HD that had all the latest updates as there were too many problems there. I now have more than 33 gig of space on the original 55 gig HD (thanks Carolyn). The iBook has been working extremely well on Leopard, up until I filled the space with crap as usually happens after a period of time (7 years!) and had got to less than 7 gig of space left.
Again, does the iBook work okay with the version of Leopard that is installed now? Which version of Leopard is that?
I take it that you are trying to move up to Mac OS X 10.5.8?

Note: That download size is 759 MB.
The iBook has been working fine for the last 4 years on Leopard 10.5.4.
It is still working fine after the reinstall but will not install the Combo Update of 759 mb as you have correctly pointed out.
I do not want to move up to 10.5.8.
If I may ask, what is your reason for not wanting to go up to Mac OS X 10.5.8?

It was released three years ago and is 561 MB.
Ronda, I haven't made a move to upgrade because I wasn't sure that I could as my iBook does not have the Intel chip. It was the last edition prior to the Intel chip issue. If I am able to upgrade I would dearly love to have your advice. Many thanks.
Yes, Mac OS X 10.5.8 is recommended for anyone running Mac OS X 10.5.
It was Mac OS 10.6 that left PowerPC processors (and iBooks) behind.

The iBook works well with the retail version of Leopard 10.5.4, which, thanks to you, I have now updated to 10.5.8.
The Combo Update installation problem I had, has now been resolved by downloading 10.5.6, then 10.5.8, then by using Software Update to get the latest security updates. I found the information leading to this solution on this site.
