pages-lost documents

I just got pages for my iPad 2, but when I synced with iTunes, all my documents seemed to have disappeared. I know this is likely basic, but please help, where did the documents go?

Thanks in advance

I have had a similar yet different disaster. I updated my iPad to IOS7. I actually had a tech walk me through it so it was done properly. Everything was fine with a few bumps in the road. All my pages files were there as my pages hadn't been updated yet. Then I got a notification to update pages. I thought hey why not couldn't hurt. **** did it hurt. NONE of my old pages files are viewable in the new pages app. For each of the old files there are two generic icons with that new pen graphic. One icon says build version history the other says index2. The file names are gone replaced by seemingly random numbers for names. When you click on either icon it says DOCUMENT CANNOT BE IMPORTED INVALID FILE FORMAT. All of them say that. Isn't that neat when pages updated it made all my old pages documents invalid file formats and unviable? So the update dosnt recognize old docs. Great!!

So I had an old backup in iTunes which it turns out I was told by someone at the Genius Bar wasn't good enough. NEAT! You see you actually have to save those files somewhere else they say. However I don't think that would have helped. Under the advice of one of twelve or so apple geniuses I talked to I bought a third part app in order to view the old docs from the old backup on my Mac. I also bough pages for my Mac so I could then transfer the docs to pages on my Mac from the third party app. NO GO. It deems two years of files are trapped in sone kind of purgatory created by the pages update which by the way is so much less like able than my old version I could scream about that alone. Every tech I talked to on the phone or at the Genius Bar said they never heard of this problem. Apparently that must mean they poke out their own eyes when they try to google it because it's happening to hundreds of people or maybe short term memory loss since I can't be the only one who has come in with this problem.

So now it has been supposedly escalated to engineering dept with the assurance that they MIGHT contact me. Is pallet not the least bit concerned about destroying years of documents of, most likely hundreds of clients, with their own update for their own app?

P.s I have been to the Genius Bar 3 spectate times and spent hours there everything from restoring the iPad from the backup etc etc etc was tried. I need a data recover expert me thinks and I'm not confident that will work.

Has anyone found a fix? Do tell do tell. WHY APPLE WHY WHY WHY? I'm ready to go PC after 20 years with Apple over this.

Hi. I recently have been using my grandfather's iPad, which he had used Pages on A LOT. When he gave it to me, I signed out of his apple account and into my own, not thinking it would change much. Now, when we are trying to access some important documents, it shows 'Pages' as being completely empty. Nothing at all. I went into his account, went to settings, then iCloud, and in the iCloud storage it shows a few documents under Pages, but not many, and not the ones we are looking for. We can't open them through iCloud on the iPad, so how do we open them? Also, how do I retrieve the documents that aren't shown in iPad, but were never deleted (should never have been deleted)? Or are they just gone? Please help.

Rocklobster, I have just done a test of this very scenario. If your ipad is signed into icloud, and pages (numbers, keynote, etc) is also set to use icloud, then... signing out of icloud (the option is called "delete icloud account") will disappear all of your iwork documents without warning/asking.

The hope being that if icloud was enabled and working properly, all of those documents will be saved and accessible on icloud.com. (In my work supporting ~2000 ipads I can not put 100% faith in this.)

There is a way to sign out of icloud and keep the iwork documents locally on the ipad; however it requires you take action BEFORE deleting the icloud account. First go the settings pane for each iwork app (pages, numbers, keynote) and turn the "use icloud" slider to OFF. Then open the respective apps and verify the documents are there. Now if you delete the icloud account, you will be prompted - asking if you want to keep the files or delete them. Why, oh, why?! does it skip this prompt in the other scenario?
