Suddenly YouTube videos won't play. I just get a black screen with no controls under it.

Exact same problem playing YouTube videos in Safari, Chrome, and Firefox - black screen, no controls, won't play. Vimeo plays fine like you say. This is happening on my iMac 2009 but not on my Macbook 2007 which both have OX 10.6.8 and Safari 5.0.5. Very strange, seems to have happened very recently. Hope somebody has an answer...

Adding the "s" to the http in the URL does correct the issue but what a pain. It got me thinking about the DNS addresses and sure enough, reverting to the default address (192.168.1.254) appears to solve the issue.

a) Go to System Preferences (in the dock), then Network (third row down, second icon).

b) If the DNS Server is not "192.168.1.254", click the "Advanced..." button, then the DNS button at the top of the next window.

c) In the left DNS Servers pane, select and click the "-" button at the bottom to delete any additions until the default address (192.168.1.254) is left.

d) Click the "OK" button.

e) Click the "Apply" button in the Network screen

That should do it.

Localboy56 YOU ARE A GENIUS!! 😍😀😎

I opened Network, then hit Advanced.

I clicked the DNS button and I saw (in light gray not black) 10.0.1.1. I didn't have anything else. I tried putting in 192.168.1.254 but then I couldn't get anything from the net. So I went back in and deleted the 192.168.1.254 and that left the light gray 10.0.1.1. Oddly enough, when I OK'd and Applied YouTube now functions properly!

I have no idea what I did, or why it is the way it is, but I quit Safari, re-opened it and now I can finally see the Ultimate Dog Tease [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGeKSiCQkPw]

THANK YOU LOCALBOY56! You were my only hope!!
