No driver needed, well at least there is nothing you need to do. Just plug it in.

I had the same problem, but bought new from Best Buy a Zoom modem, model 3095. It works. Since I do not fax, I did not even bother with the enclosed CD. Just plugged it in and it worked without doing anything else. Hope this helps.

With the Zoom 3095 my iMac 2011 faxes perfectly under Lion... I even can use the AppleModem's cord connecting the Zoom to my fritzbox.

Nevertheless, Apple's arrogance ignoring the needs for a 64bit-driver for Apple's own modem is pretty annoying!

User "davidfromla mesa" posted an $11.49 solution already and it does the same thing as the Zoom 3095 $45.99. Of course you can use the same cord that came with the Apple modem, it's just a generic phone cord. It will work with any modem or analog phone. Finally, when the problem is that we can't use an Apple modem, the problem isn't solved by NOT using an Apple modem, that's just accepting you can't solve the problem and using something else.

I bought a cheap Conexant USB modem from Ebay but I can't figure out what drivers to use with it. It does not work with "Generic" and the mini-disc which came with it only has Windows drivers.

Any advice would be sincerely appreciated. Thank you.

I purchased this modem recommended by davidfromla mesa and can not get it to work on my iMac running Lion. I did replace the apple usb modem that was working under Snow Leopard. Any configuration tips would be helpful. Only plugging it in does not do the job.

Oops, I fell for thaty too and haven't received it ye. Meh, $11 no big deal, but David, you shouldn't lie to people.

I followed davidfromla mesa's advice as well and am having the same problems in finding a driver that works (mine does not just plug in and work, as it did for dbutlerman). Can either davidfromla mesa or dbutlerman explain how to get this modem to work under Lion, something they have achieved but the rest of us have not.

That is the same model that I bought and mine works fine. Maybe they switched internals on it to some some other chipset...no lying here....I was just providing information that worked for me. Sorry it didn't work for you...

Update: I got the eBay $11.49 modem to work with this setup:

System Preferences/Network/USB Modem/Advanced/Vendor Zoom/Model Universal (115k).

System Preferences/Print & Scan/USB Modem/Open Fax Queue.../Fax Setup/Driver/Select Printer Software/chose my all-in-one printer's fax driver from the list.

After this setup I was able to Preview a document, choose Fax PDF in the lower left corner, then Printer shows USB Modem and Presets show Default Settings and a fax was sent to the fax number entered.
