will apple's usb modem work with Lion

I don't care so much about whether it will work for faxing. Well, I care a little. But mostly, I use the usb modem for communicating with a bulletin board. You probably think this must be so old-fashioned that why should Apple care. Well, I'm talking about the U.S. government. I submit claims to Medicare, Medicare requires electronic transmission, and the only way you can submit without paying a third party is through a bulletin board accessible only via a data modem. Is Apple saying that health care isn't that important? Just kidding, but what's the answer: Will the Apple USB modem work with Apple's own system?

Hi I have been mac user since 1988. The first mac I used was Mac Plus SE/30. The first mac owned was Mac II si. I am still using several G4 in my office with macP&L but also I have bunch of Mac os x machines. I have several imagewriter and lq too.

Anyway I am looking for Faxstf pro x 10.9 and 10.9.1. update I can't find one to purchase in entire web. All I found was bunch of download link that lead to garbage. Can you help me? I can either pay what you paid for. or share cost of your purchase. Thanks

Contact SmithMicro directly and tell them you are interested in purchasing a license and download. The program detects other computers on the network with an installation (probably FaxServer Pro running in the background) and disables FAXstfXPro on all machines, so inquire about a license for more than one machine if needed.

Software company do not like to keep anything when they stop developing software. As if it takes a lot of space in their office. I meant in the server. They treated years of work as a piece of garbage and throw away.

Can you help?

After a long time I was in need to fax a doc to a government agency, because they didn’t have a generic email address to receive pdf docs. Then I discovered that my Apple USB modem is now a legacy product and no longer supported, because I checked with this site! (The discussion forums are always my first and best resource for resolving difficulties. And take note everybody: pay attention to what Linc Davis and Kappy have to say on any topic. There is a reason why they have amassed so many points)

My ¢2 worth: the fax has gone the way of the dodo bird. What’s the point? If it is still paper based on the other end, it will somehow get transferred to a computer, the same kind of machine the fax originated from in the first place. Most likely a computer is set up as a fax receiving machine already, so why not pdf in the first place? A company/organization that can afford to install a fax machine can afford to install a generic email address to receive pdf docs. The reason I had to fax after so many years is because I am behind in my schedule and wanted to get the doc off my plate, and it’s Sunday, offices closed. So now I have to wait till tomorrow, Monday, and I know I will be able to get the email address of the secretary who deals with my case, and she will be happy that she doesn’t have to get up and scan my fax, turning it into a pdf file, and attach it to my file...

Sorry for my rant...

In the UK and France (plus possibly for the rest of the EU) emails are not legally acceptable documents, due to the ease which they can be altered, even with the commom 40 bit encrypted digital signatures. So for legal documents, which need to be communicated rapidly from one party to another, the only alternatives are couriers or fax. Fax is much cheaper, more secure as it is P to P and does not drop the documents in the street (UPS did that to me with extremely financially sensitive docs setting out a merger between two large Swedish companies).

Thank you for your post - this is the one issue that's been holding me up from ordering a new MacBook Pro ... and you've clinched it for me.

Would you be so kind as to post back or send me an instant message of the exact Model Number of the Zoom modem that is working for you? I take if from your post its working for 64 bit applications? Do you know if it is compatible with sending/printing faxes from MS Word for Lion?

I have given up with modems on Mac's, after the no driver debacle with Apple modems and two Zoom modems dying. The Zooms seem to die with the small amount of lightning surge that gets past the anti surge protection I have in my French house. The area has a high incidence of thunderstorms and being built on the edge of a cliff, my house is the first thing the storms hit, as they sweep up the valley.

I now use Pamfax, which is part of Skype. Because a lot of the faxes I send are international and taking the cost of purchasing Zoom modems into consideration, I reckon I actually save money using Pamfax. It has been 100% reliable in sending and receiving faxes for me and you get a proper "successful transmission" receipt for important and/or legal documents, unlike the Zoom modem.
