Have you tried automator?
Try this:
Here is the applescript for you to paste in Run Applescript:
property theList : {"doc", "docx"}
on run {input, parameters}
set output to {}
tell application "Microsoft Word" to set theOldDefaultPath to get default file pathfile path typedocuments path
repeat with x in input
try
set theDoc to contents of x
tell application "Finder"
set theFilePath to container of theDoc as text
set ext to name extension of theDoc
if ext is in theList then
set theName to name of theDoc
copy length of theName to l
copy length of ext to exl
set n to l - exl - 1
copy characters 1 through n of theName as string to theFilename
set theFilename to theFilename & ".pdf"
tell application "Microsoft Word"
set default file pathfile path typedocuments pathpaththeFilePath
open theDoc
set theActiveDoc to the active document
save astheActiveDocfile formatformat PDFfile nametheFilename
copy (POSIX path of (theFilePath & theFilename as string)) to end of output
closetheActiveDoc
end tell
end if
end tell
end try
end repeat
tell application "Microsoft Word" to set default file pathfile path typedocuments pathpaththeOldDefaultPath
return output
end run
There is a easy way out... you have to just install chrome browser, open the file using "open with" using chrome and use print option...this will get you the option to print pdf
Csound1:
Any file, but for an Adobe file, can be printed out into a PDF format or saved into a PDF format using Apple's built in capabilities.
If you try to print from an Adobe Filiable form that someone created and save it as a pdf file, the print is disabled. They require you to use a "save as" option instead.
The save as option does nothing to flatten or remove the fillable part of the file. That is why we are all looking for a print driver like they have on the PC. Also, fonts are not always embedded so flattening the PDF file would help in those cases as well.
There use to be an Adobe Printer Driver on the mac that one could use but I don't see it available anymore.
Just because you think you can print and save forms in a PDF, does not mean there are others pushing the boundary and fiing limits.
Pjdube:
Can you explain what the automater is supposed to do.
I see microsoft word being used and am unsure what that is supposed to accomplish.

The adobe print driver comes with Acrobat Reader, a free download.
Its a macro to get MS Word (which you must have installed) to open the file and do a "save as" to the same name but in PDF format.
Do all version of Office for MAC include a "save as" to PDF? I use Open Office, its free and has that built in.
From memory I believe that only Office 2011 includes Save as PDF.
The "Save as PDF" option is part of the print command window.
I uninstalled the Adobe Reader. I will reinstall to see if that is an issue.
Adobe Reader XI is having errors upon install. I have no patience to deal with their cryptic error message presently. I don't know if this is a java issue or what. I really wish we could just drag and drop the app from a reliable source and eliminate the java scripts.
Consult Adobe's tech support.

OK. Thanks for the shortcut.
We don't have any problem printing word documents or excel documents into a PDF file.
It is the Acrobat files themselves that are causing the problem.
Kim Manchong:
I experienced just the opposite - a decrease in file size.
I had an Acrobat file with a size of 1.2MB due to all the xml fields.
Printing it out using CUPS-PDF into a PDF flat file without the XML reduced its size to 116KB.
I suppose it depends upon what the starting PDF file type and size is.
