how to download free apps without credit card

I bought an iPad to my mom. Created an yahoo account to her and with that account created an Apple ID.

After that I tried to install iBook, a free app. I received the information "This Apple ID has not yet been used in iTunes Store. Tap Review to sign in".

In the review page, in payment method show only Visa, Mastercad and Amex. There is no "none" option.

Here you aren't speaking to Apple representatives but to end users like you.

So we can't fix the iTunes store.

I don't know if there is another way to do this on the macbook. My only experience has been with iTunes. The problem is not with creating the AppleID, it is with creating the iTunes account. You need an AppleID to create the iTunes account. If you haven't already used your email address to create an AppleID, you should be fine. From what I remember, go to iTunes, "Store" menu item, and "Create Account..." and you should be able to proceed with no credit card. You have a problem if your email address is already associated with an AppleID (for instance, if you registered your macbook with Apple). You will get a message saying to cancel creating the new account and sign in with the existing AppleID, then you will have to review your account info and will be forced to enter a credit card number. Completely unacceptable business practice, IMO.

You describe what I got when I created my account but according to the technote whose link was posted by Dah•veed, it seems that the scheme was modified.

I write "it seems" because the explanations start with :

1. If you already have an account, open iTunes.

I'm not sure that there is no need for a credit card for creating the very first account (which is what I did).

You may be right but I'm not sure of that. The explanations given in the pointed technote start with :

1. If you already have an account, open iTunes.

Perhaps because English may not be your first language it is a bit difficult for you to follow. Remember, this is a US company and they use English the way that Statsonians speak. Read it again;

1. If you already have an account, open iTunes. From the menu bar choose Store > Sign Out.

If you do not already have an account there is nothing of which to sign out and you would begin with step 2.

The problem with these instructions is with Step 5. Like I good consumer, as soon as I connected my Apple product to my PC, I used my email address to register it right away and that created an AppleID. If I click on the "Create New Account" button and try to use my email address, it won't let me proceed because that address has already been associated with an existing AppleID. It tells me to back up and sign in, which makes me enter a credit card.

Sure

My first language is French

My second one is AppleScript.

English is just my third one and I studied it 50 years ago 😉

Alas, given some messages in these forums, it seems that some users whose English is the main language have a lot of difficulties to read what is written in User Guides for instance .
