I'm just just about to buy Final Cut Pro X & a Canon EOS 550D
Is final Cut Pro compatiable?
I'm going to the 550D as all the reivews i've seen (C.NET etc)
and they are saying that 550D has just as good quality HD filming, Equal to the 7D
But, thought i'd get some expert advice first 🙂

Yes, it works with FCPX too. The T3i files are Quicktime and good to go.
I got a T3i a few months ago and love it. It's going for $729. on Amazon. The kit lens isn't bad, but I would recommend the superb (stealth-L) EfS 17-55 f 2.8 IS lens. It's pricey at 1k, but a great companion for the T3i.
One of the great things about the T3i is its digital zoom. It's max is 10x, but up to about 3x it crops into the sensor to 1080 so there is very little loss in quality. So 55m at 3x digital zoom, for instance is effectively 264mm (55 x 1.6 x 3).
What I found with the digital zoom is that the autofocus doesn't quite keep up. I was warned about the autofocus in general but am surprised at how happy I am with it but with the digital zoom it looses the plot.

I really appreciate the feed back beofr I spend the money on a Camera, Lens & FCPX.
I have a £1,000 budget at the moment, so after reading trough everything think i'll go with:
Eos 600D & FCPX
I might leave the lens till I can afford a good one. From what I've read on here, it's better to buy a quality £1,000 + lens rather than one just to make do.
If any one know of any good tutorials on FCPX or even on best practise woth the 600D, that would be a real help. I've always wanted to start filming, and now have a bit of a budget, it seems like a good time.

If you have £1k to spend now, absolutely go with the 600D. I picked mine up in Scandinavia for £700 at MediaMarkt. Then look at the second hand market for good lenses.
If you already have an older DSLR canon model (I have a 350D) don't be a fool like me and think you're getting a new camera with same controls and menu. I had a right panic attack on the plane t Germany when I realized how different the two are. Thank GOD I packed the instructions booklet.

Focus before implementing the digital zoom. Are you using quick mode? There is a brief blackout but focus is way faster and more accurate than live mode. You have to press the shutter button all the way down. Don't see why it should lose focus in digital zoom.
I wouldn't be the slightest bit surprised if you are 100% correct. I do blame myself first. I did press the shutter button but not all the way down. Just halfway as when focusing shooting stills. That would be my mistake then. :-)
I made the same mistake several times myself before catching on... 😊
