Thank you. I will try again in the morning.I did the turn off all music in the settings. I did the swipe to delete. It showed 0 data for music. But when I went back to iTunes after I had checked every thing all the music was back on iPad even after I deleted and trashed them and emptied my trash on iTunes. Many I did not want to keep anyway. But I will start from scratch again in the morning. I thank you for your help. Bleary eyed tonight. Have had Macs for 21 years and this is just getting to me. Yes I see some of the iCloud icons.
I think I have it sorted out in Itunes. I haven't tried to synch yet. I have had Apples for a long time, my 1st a 6400, a Lombard, a Pismo which I still have an Imac for grands and Imac g3 a power book g4 which I still have and my MacBook Pro. Iphone and now iPad. This is my first really confused state and I say this at 79 years OLD. Not a dummy or suffering dementia yet, worked avionics and electronics all my working life. So on that note I will say, maybe it is just me but I really, really hate how iTunes is now. I love music and have a large library and very eclectic but I only what what I want, when I want it out of iTunes. IMO that is how it should be, simple! I thank you again and I will get it right.
How do you get it off the cloud and IPad both? I want it gone.
I'm having the same problem. It is nutz. APPLE listen to us, we need a new ios to deal with this!!
Thank you to everyone who helped to answer this question and to Stephen Spark in particular. I successfully removed all music from my iPad, leaving plenty of room on my it for other apps. Stephen, thank you for the good advice.
Marie35, I see the amount of trouble you went through to remove music from your iPad. What I have noticed from time on the forums is that each device has it's own personality and what works for one doesn't necessarily work for another. Which probably means that there are a lot of variables at work here that we don't see. Too bad our devices can't talk to us so we can work these things out amicably. I imagine that sometime in the future way far away from now that someone will be able to build a device that can speak to us to let us know what we can do to get something done. Sounds crazy now, but in the future, who knows? Until then we will be enduring these many annoying problems.
Which one of your apple employees thought it reasonable to be able to manage photos, videos, podcasts, messages, even apps with a "edit" button or simply holding and waiting for a black "X" to pop up..BUT NOT MUSIC!?! Why should it be any different? What are you people thinking?!? I should not have to waste my time deleting songs one by one, nor should i have to connect to a computer, and go through the bull@*#& proccess of syncing just to delete an album from my brand new ipad. Do you realize how frustrating this is to your customers. This is the last apple product I will be purchasing. Going back to android ASAP
I have done exactly this but it fails to remove the music! It seems that there may be a software problem.
It's not a software problem. If you can't delete it, most likely it isn't on your device to begin with. Check to be sure the music you are trying to delete doesn't have a cloud icon with a down arrow. If it does, this means the iPad is showing you your iTunes purchased music residing in iCloud, not on your device.
To turn that off, check in Settings > Music and be sure the Show All Music option is off.
Brilliant. Many thanks! It's easy when you know how.
Michael
You're welcome but to be fair to the many people before me, this is nothing that a search of the forums or Chapter 8 of the iPad Guide wouldn't tell you. Including the post two below mine from lizdance40 posted on Feb 12, 2014 4:56 AM. ;-)
This procedure is not working. The music is still intact.
Thanks Mr. Spark. I was able to empty the music basket.
