As has been pointed out: you cannot change your name - you can establish a new one with a different name.

That is your only choice unless you had a serious, legal privacy issue.

All the points in the world will not change the fact that:

a) we are just volunteers and users like you, and

b) no, we can't change your name and Apple won't do it.

Dear Nicholas 4 red apple whatever. ( forgive me I tried to copy and paste your ID, but the site would not let me do that.) Your complaint is justified and Not right... You should be able to change your user name, and once you do, it should change historically... I picked one , but now that I see it, I think I could have done better, too... Amazon allows you to change your user name so it should not be any big deal for superpower apple to do the same, unless they are not such a superpower...

Dear Babowa - It just doesn't make any sense. Amazon does it, so Apple should be able to do it too. People have histories here so they should not have to abandon old accounts for new ones. This is clearly not a "User Friendly" attribute. On Amazon, if you change your ID, then it changes for every commet historically. I suspect that Apple lacks the ability to do the same. If they let you change your icon, they shold let you change your user name. However, I think any such change should insert itself retroactively.

Dear Deggie- What? Why do you think you should not have to pay for services you use? or for Taxes that pay police and fire that protect you? Why should people with familes have to risk and scarifice their lives for you for free? THAT is what makes no sense. You use services, you pay. Dah. end of story. You change your name on a silly website, your change of name should be allowed without going through the trouble of opening a new account. THAT'S what makes NO sense whatsoever.

No, it make no sense to YOU given the little information that you have. This is not Apple software here, it is Jive software and the system is operated by them. It has to tie in and sync with the various online Apple Stores, and their other databases, which is several systems (Amazon uses just one). Changes can be made but it is not a trivial matter to do so. They will honor such a request if it is an urgent and potentially dangerous security matter. Otherwise create an Apple ID just for this site.

Yes, though the software does give the power to the hosts, at least, to change user's IDs. However as you probably know, they only do so if personal information is contained in the username that the user regrets including. Now, I'm sure the reason for this is because the hosts are busy enough as it is without being flooded with ID name change requests.

James Ward, Be respectful. Why are you calling his selection at age 12 Dumb? Do you not have your own children? This apple thing started as a child's game, soe children participated in it. Now that they are mature, they should be allowed to create "mature" user names. I suspect if you allowed your daughter on, her name would be " Sparkly Pink Tinkerbell" but by the time she had graduated from Harvard number one in her class with her MBA and was 25 looking for a globally important job in a bad economy, she might want it to be something else. So do you think your kid shold be stuck with " Sparkly Pink Tinkerbell" like an anchor around her neck until the day she dies? Is that what you are saying here?
