I simply clicked on the apps that were stuck like I was going to launch them and they restarted downloading. I hope this helps.
I had this problem. I found that I an iTunes download stuck. This was blocking any other downloads. Apparently this is a big problem with iTunes. If you pull up iTunes and go to downloads you can find out if you have this problem. To fix it pause the download then swipe from left to right. The delete button will appear. Then you can safely remove this download and free up any other downloads including installing apps and updating apps.
I did as palunter said (swipe left to right) and there was not any option to delete; no effect from swiping.
Actually, it happened to my iPad lately, it took me time to watch & look for my apps progress until I found out that its still not working the next day. I just click iTunes and click downloads, there I saw my pending downloads before. I deleted those stuffs and my apps downloads works.
Same problem with my iphone. Tried restoring twice, erased all settings, stopped all downloads, still not working.
same issue here, can't delete the "processing..." file - no option to delete with swiping (i can delete all the files below "waiting", but not the top "processing " file).
I haven't restored or erased settings. I've logged out of itunes...the download queue doesn't go away, even after reset.
Clicking the app worked for me!
Same problem here. The updates bar is just hanging empty ... no progress (not even a start of progress most of the time). The only thing that seems to help is to uninstall the app and the install it again. That's not a problem with any free app and no settings or files/documents saved, but it's a huge inconvenience with the most valuable and most frequently used apps (in which I typically have files and settings saved). Apple, please fix this!!

I went though the whole delete/re-install song and dance for a while. I haven't synched with my computer for months, so going to the computer to solve wasn't an option.
Today I found, however, that when I just click the icon for the app that is stuck, it actually goes into waiting mode and then starts loading automatically. If it gets stuck on waiting, clicking the icon again starts the loading process. (Sometimes takes a few seconds between modes, so be patient. 🙂).
Totally solves the problem.
Clicking on the apps themselves ,as if you are trying to launch them, made them start downloading just like Alibra said.

This is the same issue I am having! I'm not sure what happened or why but I just returned from a trip about a week ago and it stated doing this after I returned. I wonder if it had something to do with being out of wi-fi contact for an extended period? I was without wi-fi for about 10 days so maybe I missed a software tweek.
If you are downloading apps, you can tap on them to pause or resume. This is expected behaviour. However, it is not the issue we are discussing here - where apps just don't download.
I just deleted the apps and installed them one by one. Took a minute and worked fine
I connected my iPad to iTunes on my Mac and clicked on apps under Library and updated each app one at a time that I wanted to update (instead of update all). Then, I synced the iPad and all of the apps that were previously hanging updated. When I click on iTunes app on my iPad it hangs and I cannot connect. Must be a file that is hanging but I cannot figure it out. I did receive an email from iTunes store a couple of times for "purchase cannot be completed," but it did not list the item. I probably downloaded something by accident. Thought I would share in case it helps someone.
I have been having the same problem and it was driving me crazy! I did not want to do a reset, and have to reload so much. I did not have a (very) current backup, so nothing to do a good restore from. So... I put my iPad into Airplane mode - forcing all external communications to cease. I then rebooted it, leaving it in airplane mode. And then I connected it to my Mac to see if it would do a sync. And it did. So for now my problem appears to be fixed - put in Airplane Mode, reboot, and snyc via cable to your Mac.
