I completely agree. My MAC App store access worked fine right up until the released patch 10.6.8. So it was there doing. Others had issues at the same time. My MAC Appstore account works fine on other computers, and iTunes works fine on all computers, phones and tablets.

I don't really care about not being able to buy new stuff on that computer, do not really need anything. But I am annoyed that I can't get updates to Pages, Keynote and Numbers, that I had already purchased. That is WRONG.

I have wireless and Ethernet connectivity. The Ethernet port on the iMac shorted out 4 or 5 years ago. I never had it replaced. Was using wireless for connectivity, and it worked fine with MAC appstore till 10.6.8. I purchased a USB Ethernet dongle to connect wired to see if that would make a difference. It did not. I considered a Snow Leopard re-install, but others with the same problem on here told me that they had performed several re-installs with no change.

I called support and they argued, due to the fact that my iMac was out of (free) support. I understood but my point was that it was THEIR patch that broke my system. I have wiped the plist, removed and re-installed iTunes, every idea that I have come across and none work.

Where is a genius when you need one......

It makes me fume frankly. I have what was a top of the line Mac Pro with two screens and maxed out with RAM and hard drives, but I use mac.com for my email... So I can't even access that anymore.. It is beyond frustrating.. I have to resort to webmail for my email.. frankly it's pathetic and totally unprofessional... For the first time in my many many years of Mac ownership, I am really unhappy.

No, you need to see the message stream really. It's because the Ethernet is grilled which prevents specific identifiers being accessed. Replaced the board with a third party one on apples advice and have performed all the other suggested steps, but the machine can still not be identified by app store or iCloud svcs. Incredibly frustrating! And apple tech doesn't know how to fix the problem! Very common problem amongst those with grilled Ethernet.

I can verify that if your ethernet is not functional, then this "fix" does not work.

I use airport for my connection so I am not sure why this would be an issue. I am using a 2008 Macbook that everything works on except the ethernet. I can get to everything EXCEPT the app store. I literally clean installed Lion last night.

This is very unlike Apple.

Doesn't seem unlike them at all. I guess it affects too small fraction of a user for them to care. There's a lot about their products which is half-assed where they have lots of small software issues they simply never fixed because it's hidden away and doesn't affect most users. This is just the first thing you've come across with them.

I see this "not recognized problem" so prevalent and the suggestion to just delete the Network...plist isn't solving everyone's problems. It's pity that Apple is ignoring this since releae of 10.6.8 and now the Lion 10.7.3. I downloaded 10.7.3 only last month when my system was 10.6.7. But then I wanted to get Aperture which requires that I have 10.6.8 - so I updated my unit (Mac Pro) to 10.6.8 and the App Store has put a dead man's bolt on my system.

Thought the problem would go away with 10.7.3 install but no no no.... Now I am left with a system that I can't get any product from APP store - I was so hoping to buy the FCP X with the new multicamera edit. But it seems Apple could care less about any of this. ALL suggestions has drawn a blank.

Then I looked at the Network Preferences.plist (even after deleting as suggested) The receated plist shows IOBuiltin as false!!!!

Finally I switched back to 10.6.7 and checked the plist. Guess what? IOBuiltin is true and I can access my App Store.

What NONSENSE is this?

I've tried the method as outlined in Post #1, but it didn't work. I've also come across a more detailed instructions by Apple Support (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3925), and it didn't work for me too.

Eventualy I figured out my Ethernet port has somehow shorted, and App Store hence has no way to verify my account. Although I can connect to my network and the Internet via Wi-Fi, my 2007 iMac is as good as a dead weight if I can't use the App Store.

Luckily I came across a post somewhere that saved my iMac! The post suggests that I power-down the iMac, detach the power cable, and leave the iMac power off overnight.

The next morning the iMac rebooted with the Ethernet Port magically working again! I then followed the method as outlined in Post #1, and wham bang, thank you, M'dm!

This worked for me.

I'm using WiFi

It seems that App Store is looking for Ethernet

First I need to verify if my Ethernet is working.

- oopss, it isn't so i fixed it using some post at the other forums.

Second you need to check at System Preference/Network the order of the network hardwares on the list:
- Ethernet

- 802.11n WLAN Adapter

Lastly, followed the instructions above.

Thanks a lot bman6185

If your ethernet chip is toast this will not have any effect. It appears that Apple is just calling this a "hardware" problem so get a new motherboard or a new machine from Apple. I've got to figure out where I can get $600 for a new mac-mini.

I'll have to reconsider the whole App Store thing --- much better to try and buy directly from the developer.

Hi Sam,

I have the same problem with the toasted ethernet chip. The problem for me is that appstore, iCloud and iMessage is giving me the verification error message. I can get away with the appstore issue, but I have an iPhone and iPad too and really want to use the iCloud service!

It's been almost a year now, I do not know if they will be changing the way they validate the en0 mac rule...

I have 10.8.2 and the same problem. I tried deleting Network plist file, but this didn't help. I can log anywhere with my Apple ID credentials except in Apple Store. I am tired of trying different tricks so I decided I don't need App Store, I find dmg file on other sites, donwload and install them, and it works as from App Store. App Store can kiss my *ss, if Apple isn't interested to fix this problem, then they shouldn't say "support 24/7" or something like that when they are selling their stuff. The prices are already much bigger that they should be, so lack of support is just one more thing on the list that make me thinking of returning to Android phones and Windows PC's!
