Bman6185's solution worked like a charm.

To be fair, I'd just gotten my MacBook Air back from Apple after repair due to liquid damage. This required first a full restore from Time Machine. One problem with the replacement hardware is that the Airport card was different (new) and it isn't what App Store was looking for I guess. Trashed netprefs plist, rebooted, check Network Preferences where there was now an Airport 2, got back online, and bingo: App Store is now downloading Lion.

Props to Apple Support Discussion Forums for almost always saving me a phone call to Apple. You regulars here are the best.

I tried all of the tips listed in this thread without success. I have a Mac Mini 2.1 that meets all of the specs for App Store, etc. It even validated previously. However, I get the error listed in the title of this thread. In summary, I repeatedly deleted all the files, deauthorized computer, deleted ports, reinstalled OS, etc. However, it appears the crux if the problem is that my ethernet port on the mini is shot. As a result, it fails some type of hardware validation with the App Store. Luckily, on my iMac, I can login to App Store. Something I found was how to download and burn a copy of Lion to a DVD. There are multiple sites that explain this, but this one was most clear:

Had this problem, too. Seems to be an issue with network interfaces is checked by App Store. You can delete the plist-File for the network. Here´s a howto http://welcome2inter.net/news/newsdetails.html?identity=35

This worked! and works for anyone having the problem..!!! i just did it..and the message went away and it started downloading immediately.

Same problem. Contacted support, they had me reinstall OS X 10.6.8. Didn't help. Contacted support again, they sent me to this thread. I removed the NetworkInterfaces.plist as instructed. Didn't help. I reset the SMCPRAM. Didn't help.

I can download from iTunes on this computer but the App Store won't let me sign on. It's not an Apple ID problem because I can get to the App Store from my wife's iMac with my Apple ID. My wife tried signing into the App Store with her Apple ID (which works on her computer and mobile devices) but it came up with the same frustrating message.

Also, I am unable to sign onto the forum using my computer. I'm on my wife's computer.

Apple phone support is entirely unable to help.

Any more suggestions?

Create a Test User Account and see if the issue follows you to the Test account. If it doesn't, then you know that it isn't system wide, it's just in your user account.

If it is just in your user account, you might as well pack it up and move your stuff to a new account because it is almost impossible to track down something that effects just one account.

If it is system wide....

...I don't know what to tell you!

Only that after trashing netprefs and rebooting, it's important to go back to Network Preferences and look at the network card. On my computer, it still wanted to use Airport (now called Airport 1), which doesn't exist! But it did find the airport card and showed it as Airport 2. Selected it, back in business. It occurs to me that some users may have to click the + button to add a network interface and force the computer to find the airport card and re-read its configuration.

Thanks for everyone's help, but nothing works. Dah•veed, you'll see in my message that I was unable to sign in on my computer even using my wife's verified Apple ID and account so I don't see much use in making a test account. I've deleted netprefs, zapped the PRAM, reinstalled OS X 10.6.8 (what I'm trying to do is download Lion), and I'm using wireless, not an ethernet port. It seems to be a problem limited to this iMac (I can sign on to everything on my wife's iMac), so perhaps it's some kind of hardware problem. It worked okay last year, though.

So I'm stumped.

norman,

I was in the EXACT predicament as you and the none of the suggested fixes worked. I believe the Ethernet port on my mini got zapped somehow.... I too am using wireless, so it was not a bother to me. However, I wanted to update to Lion. Well, I am typing this to you from the Mini whos App Store connection does not work... Here is how (from my post above):

Something I found was how to download and burn a copy of Lion to a DVD. There are multiple sites that explain this, but this one was most clear:

I think that you misunderstood me. I was suggesting that you create a test user account on your Mac and see f the issue is in a new user account. I was not suggesting that you make a fake iTunes account.

BTW, if your wife has an iMac and the MAS works with your account, why not buy Lion through her Mac? Or have her buy Lion? You do not both have to buy Lion.

Hi, I have an identical problem.. Apple support told me to buy a third party ethernet board and that would resolve the issue. I did so, and I have now have ethernet, but it has not resolved the problem.. Nobody at apple tech support even seems to understand the problem let alone know how to resolve it! I have sent an email to Tim cook in the hope that I might get somewhere, but am not to optimistic. I agree, we have contractually purchased this software, so I don't see that apple has the right to lock us out from our own purchases. Our machines work perfectly with the addition of a third party ethernet board!

Have you got any further?
