Hi,

I have the same problem. Either deleting the 2 files or reseting the SMC is useless. Btw, my built-in ethernet card seems to be out of order (no hardware detection in the system hardware list). I think both problems are related, and that Appsotre checks the integrity of my computer before allowing me to connect :/

I am having an identical problem. Ethernet card is inoperable (Airport is working fine). I cannot login to the app store and iTunes crashes everytime I start it.

This all happened after a routine software update.

I called customer support and they said that I would have to pay for help, or that I could take it to a Genius Bar.

For a software problem that they caused?

FYI, I have a Mac Pro 1,1 that I paid $5000 for in 2007. It still kicks ***, except for this headache of a problem.

Just wanted to add in another success story for removing /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist

Thanks to everyone who figured it out. I'd just note that rather than *deleting* the file, I moved it to my Desktop (a good practice to get into the habit of when following Internet instructions)... that way if for some reason anything broke, I could put the file back where it belonged...

But, in this case, worked like a charm. Thanks a million.

I too was not able to log into the App Store on my iMac (OSX Lion 10.7.2).

And the reccomendation from @Robbie Bradley-Combs worked for me too.

1) Delete the file Macintosh HD/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist

2) Reboot

3) Sign in to the app store.

As a bonus, I was also having trouble with iTunes (10.5.1) crashing on opening - getting pop up that said "iTunes Volume is turned all the way down" When I clicked Restore Windows, or anything - iTunes would crash. Now this is resolved as well!

Thanks to the apple community!

Are you saying that you've had no issues with MobileMe being affected by the iCloud rollout? Lucky you - many people did.

Have you had any probelms with iCloud itself? If not, once again count yourself among the lucky few.

How about iTunes Match? There have been so many reports of teething troubles with this service that I find it really hard to believe that just because I have experienced these issues, it is somehow the problem of my hardware.

I disagree - all of the issues I have experienced with Apple's online services over the past months have either been server-side issues on the part of Apple, or have come as a direct result of a change that Apple has made to an existing software or service, such as is the case with my trouble with the App Store. Blaming my hardware for this when numerous others have had problems is coming too close to being an Apple apologist for comfort IMHO.

That's too much of a blanket statement. My own problem has ONLY been with the AppStore, and the issue mentioned throughout this thread. The fix worked on my MacBook Pro, but not on my MacBook. I have also found Apple's response infuriating. They want me to pay them to just talk to them on the phone since my AppleCare has long been expired. I'm okay with it if it was something that I had done, but it isn't. Plus, the fix that I am looking for would only allow me to spend more money on Apple products.

Yup this is the way to resolve this login issue with the app store. I did have to reslect my Wi-Fi network after the restart, no big deal there. Hopefully I didn't kill anything else...

1) click on the finder

2) click on 'Go' (top menu) -> 'Go to Folder...'

3) copy and paste this into the field (minus the quotations) " /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration "

4) find and trash NetworkInterfaces.plist

5) reboot

Yeah the "authorise" thing has been somewhat of a repeitive thing for me too. I currently have 3 computers authorised and you can have up to 5 so not sure why that pops up. I have gone to iTunes and reset it or de-authorised all computers and started over. Again thanks for the tip. I had to read though all the post on this thread and then make the decision on which "fix" would work and it was yours. Luckly my first choice was the right choice. 🙂
