Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT

Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

People receiving mail from me can't download JPEGs

Just as the title says. If I send someone an email from MacMail, the receiver can see the jpeg attachments, but not download, or actually take them out of the mail itself. PDFs, and every other format seems to work fine. So I have to .zip every jpeg and some people, believe it or not, don't know what to do with .zips and then ask for a JPEG again.

I have left Mail and it's preferences completely stock, no tweaking of anything. This is not a new problem. It's been like this even with Leopard, and now Snow Leopard.

99% of the people I send to are on windows pcs, if that matters.

so where is the attachment header?

As far as I can see, there isn't one. If those are the headers for all parts of the message, the message does not contain an attachment.

Obviously there is more to the message. The first content type is "multipart/alternative", the next content type is "text/plain". There must be at least one more and it will probably be "multipart/related".

This is a pointless exercise. There is nothing wrong with the message.

This forum is for users of Snow Leopard (Mac OS X v10.6). Your problem may, or may not, be the same, and the solution may, or may not, be the same, but it's much better if you post your question in the appropriate forum.

<Mac OS X v10.7 Lion>

This will avoid mis-direction, misinformation, and wasted time on all sides.

No time is being wasted. There is nothing to fix.

Val probably should have started a new question because this topic dates from before Lion was released.

There problably is. As to what might be there -- I'm not as familiar with the Apple mail framework as you seem to be, but I shouldn't be so sure of what else there might be in the message.

No time is being wasted.

You were able to write and post your message in zero time? Wow! I wish I could do that.

I have read through all the posts and don't think they answer the question posed. This is because all replies have assumed the issue is at the recipient. Actually I think the fault is with the MAC. When photos are loaded into a MAC it does something to the file format that no normal computer can then read.

My friend downloaded all our holiday pictures from my camera to her mac. Her mac then took it upon itself to delete my pictures from the card. No problem we thought - just get them from her mac. However, the photos we copied off the mac aren't vewiable or openable on any programme I can find.

The photos still claim to be jpegs, but if I try and open them with photoviewer I get the message below. If I try and open with anything else, it just fails.

When I try to open the files I get this message: "windows photo viewer can't open this picture because it doesn't support this file format."

Clearly the MAC has done something. PLease can somebody tell me what it is and how to open these files on a windows computer?

I don't have a MAC and based on this exepeince am very unlikely to ever get one. Can somebody convince me otherwise?

Please help - I am desperate to retrieve my photos.

We'll ignore the bizarre concept of a "normal" computer, but simply say that no, a Mac does nothing unusual to the files.

No it didn't. Some apps with offer to delete them but it takes overt action on the part of the user to actually go through with it. That said, there a plenty of apps that can recover photos from a camera card. As you're on Windows, seek advice on a forum for whatever version of Windows you have.

However, the photos we copied off the mac aren't vewiable or openable on any programme I can find.

Here's the key point. You don't tell us what or how you copied the photos from the Mac. Insofar as there is a problem, my guess is that this is the point where it occurs. So... details of how you went about this would be helpful.

I have no idea why you think anyone here cares a whit if you ever use a Mac or not.

Have that person check to see if the files are in RGB format & that the file names are not too long - same with size.

Have sent many Jpegs from by Mac to windows people - only issues for one was when I sent them a jpeg that was in monochrome format (as it was a B&W picture -- no problem since I changed to RGB.

Did the mac person load the pictures into a proprietary format software? or into IPHOTO? In IPHOTO should be able to export again as JPEG see if that works - in Proprietary format - same - export as JPEG.

first 2 responses - Sorry if I offended anybody - was just trying to help. The original question as I thought (based on my problem - just included for example) was caused by something done by IPHOTO rather than the receiving email.

Thank you notcloudy - I think it was IPHOTO so we will try that.

Was sending out some jpegs last night ---and oh yeah -- you have to send attachments as windows friendly -- I don't just drag and drop - instead I click on the attachment icon - that opens up a choose file window - on the bottom is an option to choose Windows Friendly files - once it is set to yes - you don't have to set it again -- forgot it was even there.
