Thanks, I have looked into this a bit already. It's not the most elegant solution but it may work fine.

The programs I use are pretty CPU intensive and use hardware too, and while it may work fine in Win7, I wan't to exhaust the possibility of running XP as that is what I am used to and I know it's %100 stable with my set up.

I fear Win7 will ce a can of worms with some of my legacy softare.

There are many users here that have XP working so I am going to fully explore this possibility first.

Civvie, you can definitely get most of that working. There's a large difference between "supported" and "officially supported."

I have the discrete GPU working, but haven't tried the integrated GPU on my late 2011 MBP. Check out Intel's site for that driver. I have posted a guide and list of drivers at my own site (see my posts a few posts above yours). I updated my list to a working BroadCom WiFi driver link.

civvie, you have run into the same brick wall I have. That is one of the main things that I have yet to get to work, although apparently there are some instances of two-finger right-click working for some people (KenV54 in this thread being one of them.) I have tried all manner of ways to get this to work, including his suggestion of manually extracting the Binary.AppleWirelessTrackpad-Bin from the Boot Camp 3.2 executable, but have not been successful. If you ever have any luck with this, let us know.

In the meantime, you might want to either use XP's built-in shortcut Shift-F10 to emulate a right-click, or try a nifty little program called AppleMouse at http://rhdesigns.browseto.org/applemouse.html, which interprets a left-click with the control key held down as a right-click.

I think I have gotten as far as I can with XP drivers on my Early 2011 MacBook Pro, and I wanted to share a few links not yet posted in this thread:

Intel HM65 / 6 Series / C200 Series Chipset Family (v9.3.0.1019 as of this posting, a newer version than that on John W's website)

Intel Management Engine Driver for Intel 6 Series Chipset (v7.1.20.1119 as of this posting)

Broadcom Card Reader (v1.0.0.222 as of this posting)

Cirrus HD Audio (v1.0.0.13b worked for me - This fixes some serious bugs in the original Boot Camp Cirrus driver)

The Intel drivers should work for both Early & Late 2011 MacBook Pros, which use the same chipset. I don't know how critical the Intel ME driver is, but I would recommend the Card Reader and Audio drivers if you want to best use those items.

The Firewire port and the Thunderbolt port (for video) already work fine for me, but I am using Boot Camp 3.2 drivers, so Apple may have already built in support for those ports.

After all drivers are installed, the only question mark I have left in Device Manager is for the FaceTime HD camera, but since mine seems to be working fine, I haven't worried too much about this. If it later becomes an issue, I'll post back with any solutions I find.

I was never able to get the integrated Intel HD Graphics 3000 driver to install, but the AMD/ATI Radeon driver installed fine. And of course the trackpad has limited function as well, but overall I'm pleased with the functionality of XP on my "unsupported" computer. 🙂

John W, please feel free if you desire to add these to your website, then we can refer others there if they need a concise list.

And thanks to all for the suggestions in this thread!

Hi Mac, I read your comments and I got hope that I can also us XP in my Late MacBook pro. Actually I am telecom engineer and in our telecom there are lot of softwares which can only be supported by XP not even by windows 7 so I must have to use XP in MBP otherwise I have to go back for other laptops. My MacBook Pro is 13inch-late 2011, graphics-intel HD graphic 3000 384 MB, software- Mac OS X lion 10.7.3 (11D50B). Kindly help me out in this regard if you have any information to install XP. Use a VM like Parallels, Fusion, or VirtualBox to install XP.

Read this thread. Why would you want to go through all this hassle to install an operating system that is not supported by Apple or Microsoft? No one in this thread has got XP to work 100% . Why bother?

If you don't want to use a VM, Windows 7 will allow you to run XP-only programs. Seems much simpler to install a supported operating system.

Feb 28, 2012 4:44 PM in response to Rizwan

Rizwan, Bob has valid arguments if you want to go that route. Some of us wanted to go the Boot Camp route to maximize the speed of games or other CPU-intensive programs, or because some XP programs that we use interact directly with hardware, or just to see if it could be done. 🙂

If you decide on Boot Camp, I would highly recommend you go to http://johnwoltman.com/node/229, which is where I had most of my luck. It gives a step-by-step method for installation of XP on a late 2011 MacBook Pro. I would start there, and see how far that gets you.

Note that one driver that will NOT work for you is the AMD Catalyst drivers, as your 13-inch MBP uses only

Intel HD 3000 Graphics, and I personally did not get that driver to install. However, you may have better luck than me.

Good luck!
