Just bought macbook air 2011.

Tried to install xp , facing the same issues . .

1. Not using bootcamp. Just do partition. Then reboot using win xp installation disk.

Issues : after a while, it seems installation cannot recongnize file in superdrive. End up cannot install full xp.

2. Tried to install xp using usb installation. Also face the same issues.

El mundo,

This is/was music (boot chime) to my ears. Final Cut Pro ran amuck and when I finally gt back up there was "some" disk corruption. I ran repair and all looked well, except when I tried to boot mo XP partition, theselection was not there!!!!

The files were there and ok so I copied the bootcamp disk to a safe harbour.

I called apple help and they said thee was no way to restore the "boot block" or whatever and that I should use disk assistant to build a new partition and the REBUILD my applications.

Of course it didn't want to proced when I put my XP disk in so I quit.

Some detail?

Do I do a hard restart? that is hold the power off key?

Going away to give it a try.

Back... if I survive....

Hello RainHabits,

It's been a few months, but maybe you'll catch this. You've written the best walk through that I've read in this post.
I just bought a refurb iMac 21" (May 2011) and it has Boot camp 4. =(
I went to apple's site and it says very plainly in the section about windows on mac that all you need is at least Leopard OSX and Win XP sp2, coupled with Bootcamp and you can run windows on a Mac.
What it doesn't say is that the new Lion and in particualr Boot Camp 4.0 and above does not support anything but Windows 7 =(

Long story short, the new XP sp3 disc I bought just came in the mail and I went to install it on Bootcamp... I'm already down ~$100. I don't want to buy Win 7 I'd rather not do Parallel. Your walk through sounds like it should work for me, but I noticed that everyone is talking about MBPs and finding drivers for them or even for an AIR.

Where can I get drivers for an iMac?

thank you and anyone else who can help.

Donbee,

Thank you for your acknowledgement! It means a lot to know that.

Proceeding, I have no doubt that you will have no issues with the installation, so long as you follow the guide that I had posted. That's not to say that mine is better than anyone else's. I'm just saying that I know it works first-hand experience. I'm sorry to say that I can't guarantee anything... but I'm near positive that it'll work! Just make sure that you have everything from the guide, and good luck!

Don't hesitate to contact me again, and good luck!

The easiest way to install Windows XP on Mac OS X Lion is using Oracles Virtual Box. It installs easily and you don't have to worry about tring to find drivers for the new Macs.

It is free and you can get it here:

https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads

The other nice thing is that it installs in a VDI file so it can be backed up by Time Machine. So as many of us know if Windows gets corrupted you can restore it without having to reinstall it.

You can also install other virtual operating systems.
