TWAIN Sane and Mac OS X Lion

Hi everyone,

last year I bought a MacBook with Snow Leopard and, while installing the drivers for my scanner (Canon CanoScan N676U), I found out that it was not compatible with Mac OS X 10.6. So I tried to search a solution to my problem with Google and I found a very interesting project.

So I installed TWAIN Sane (all the links can be found in my old discussion https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2506911?answerId=11962603022#11962603022).

Now I would like to upgrade to Lion whenever it comes out but I fear that TWAIN Sane could be not compatible with the new OS. What do you think? Is there anyone who has installed and tried it with the new OS (maybe a developer)? I've already tried to send an email to the developer of the "solution" (I don't know if it can be properly called a "software"), but so far he hasn't sent me a reply.

Thank you in advance to anyone who tries to help me!

We don't know. TWAIN Sane is a third-party software so it's up to it's developer to make it compatible (assuming it no longer is.) All we can tell you is to install it and try it out.

Even had a developer tested it with a Lion seed he/she could not discuss it here.

Unfortunately it does not seem to work for me. Preview works and I get an image, but I cannot select an image type, so it asks for a location, I choose desktop, and then it 'hangs' and returns.

If I select image.tiff or jpg or whatever, it still does not work.

I cannot select scan

So it seems to work 'almost'...

Are you working with Mac OS 10.7 Lion ? It would be strange if you succeeded installing TWAIN SANE from the link you quoted because there are 10.6 Snow Leopard packages that Lion usually refuses to install. You must use the rexxor link if you want to install for Lion. By the way, what is your scanner ? Is it supported by the SANE librairies ? Did you try with the SNAC software ?

Thanks for your post. I am answering 1 by 1:

It actually has recent updates which has separate entries for Lion!

By the way, what is your scanner ?

hp 3300c.

Is it supported by the SANE librairies ?

Yes- I was using since SnowLeopard days.

Did you try with the SNAC software ?

Yes- after reinstalling in Lion- but it does not give options to change resolution/ output file type and other finer prints! Now, of course, I can do it using TWAIN-SANE command line- as mentioned by jzomer

Everything works like I mentionned in the 10.7 section of this discussion:

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3266330

With Image Capture, some dialog boxes of "Show details" window are not avalaible. Just type a name for your file and choose a type and a resolution. Put the "Automatic selection" not activate, unless the scanner would scan separated elements if you choose type "Text". Then choose "Hide details" and scan. It should produce a jpeg file of the entire document.

In the Snac software, you should see on the left the "Scan mode", "Output format", "Depth" and "Resolution" choice boxes. Under that, the "Preview" and "Scan" buttons.

If it does not works, try first to unplug (power and USB) the scanner. Then power it up and plug the USB and retry. If nothing is better, try to reinstall Twain Sane and Snac.

Hi *****,

I have an old Canon LIDE 50 and with TWAIN SANE I was able to get Image Capture to see the scaner. The problem is that the scanned image appears distorted in a 45 degree angle. In the SANE app I get the preview image of the scanned document fine, but once scanned the image is distorted... 😕

Any hints?
