my mac is making a clicking noise
Need more information, what kind of sound, when do you hear the sound (on start up).
Eric,
I have 3 new iMacs, the 3.4ghz and 3.1ghz start up quiet however my 27" i5 2.7ghz iMac makes a clicking noise on startup. It actually sounds like it is coming from the disk drive...like the drive is trying to eject a stuck disk but can't. Jason does your's also sound like it's coming from the disk drive area? For me, the noise has been like that since I first turned it on...only had it about a month. I don't have any issues with putting in or ejecting disk so I don't know if it's the drive for sure.
It sounds like the hard drive is turning on then goes through a series of clicks, a sound that resembles the computer shutting down, back to the clicks and so forth. Happens about three times each time i wake the computer or turn it on. It's not the disk drive though.
Put a disc in the optical drive, run it a minute and then eject it. See if the sound disappears.
