adapter to mirror ipad?

I teach a basic apple computer 'how to' class at a local retirement facility. We have about 65 mac users who come to our meetings. I usually use an ibook with an adapter to show them various things on the big screen. They heard I bought an ipad and I just got an email asking me to bring it as many of them want to get one. So I'm happy to bring mine and I wonder if it is possible to use an adapter to mirror the ipad on the projector's screen. I have only had my iPad for about two weeks so I am still learning about it.

Thanks,

Michelle

Thanks, I had found that item and then found out the location where I teach my class needs a VGA plug, when I looked for the vga plug on apple, the info mentions it mirrors, but several reviews at the bottom sugges it only shows videos, so I am confused and posted here. This is the link for that one

Do you think this WILL mirror the ipad? and the reviewers are confused? I am NOT video savvy so any help is appreciated. Are there options if the ipad will mirror with a HDMI adapter and the projector at the location needs a VGA adapter, if that makes any sense?

Thanks,

Michelle

Thanks Anova, I checked this out and see the list of apps that do not appear to mirror. Safari is listed there, saying it is for sharing videos. So, normally I open safari to walk the people through the pages I want them to know about, etc. From this list, it sounds like I would not be able to mirror the page in safari via the adapter, like I can with the ibook.

Anyone have the VGA adapter and can tell me what it will or will not do? I am not excited to pay $30 or $40 dollars if it is a very limited tool, for what I would use it for.

Thanks for any information.

Michelle-

I have both the VGA and HDMI adapters. They both provide mirroring on my iPad 2.

I tried the VGA adapter on three old computer monitors. A very old IBM monitor had a garbled screen. One of two old LCD monitors appeared to work but had a message in the center of the screen that it was not compatible. The second LCD monitor worked perfectly. So there might be a compatibility problem with your projector, but probably not if it is a recent model.

Michelle-

Additional notes on the VGA and HDMI adapters:

1. The weight of the cord plus adapter tends to pull the plug out of the iPad when hand held.

2. The HDMI adapter played stereo music through a small Vizio HDTV.

3. VGA does not have sound. You only hear sound from the iPad.

4. I saw a special VGA cable at Walmart that has an Audio cable attached. It should allow the iPad's headphone connection to feed a projector or TV audio input. I do not know if the audio "pigtail" is long enough to reach the iPad's headphone connector when attached to the VGA adapter.

5. When playing a video using VGA with the Vizio HDTV, the video played on the TV but not on the iPad. This should not be a problem, but isn't exactly "Mirroring"!
