No, you can't, unless you have another Mac running Snow Leopard. The only way you can get Lion now is via the App Store, which won't run on Leopard.

In August, when the USB sticks are available, you can do that, but it will be somewhat more expensive than upgrading to Snow Leopard, then Lion, as posted earlier.

Instead of upgrade, you can do fresh install Lion into another partition and so you would have multiboot 10.5.8 and 10.7.

If you wish to use the the exisiting 10.5.8 partition to install 10.7 Lion, you can first create a 10.7 DVD. And use the 10.7 DVD to do installation instead.

One more thing, as 10.7 default kernel mode is 64bit. please make sure your macbook able to support that.

If not supported, there's a risk but you can try if 10.7 can detect if your macbook not able to support and change to 32bit. 🙂

As i have Mac 0S X 10.5.8and have the Intel Core 2 duo. Will i be able to download Lion over snow leopard.

I see some confusion exists I believe.

10.5.x = Leopard

10.6.x = Snow Leopard

To download Lion/10.7 you need the App Store installed, which requires 10.6.6 or greater.

You can buy Lion on a Flash Drive for $69 & completely erase your Hard Drive & install Lion, it will not install to any drive that has OSX of 10.6.5 or less on it already.

So, $29 for 10.6 + $29 for 10.7 download, or $69 to skip 10.6 & require erasing.

It jus that i have seen the images of the snow leopard and my mac can do and has the same thing as it does on the snow leopard. Is the difference is that i can download the mac app store.

Yes, and likely future iDevices will require it... or higher.

Also 10.5.8 is faster on my Core 2 Duo than 10.6.5 is.
