Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

Will Apple allow us to run Snow Leopard in a virtual environment??

With the upcoming release of Lion, and the litany of apps running with the help of Rosetta (i.e. Quicken... and no update in site from Intuit)..... will Apple allow us to run Snow Leopard client in a virtual environment on the Lion box?

The current EULA for OSX allows for only Leopard Server and Snow Leopard Server to be run in a virtual machine on Apple branded hardware. Leopard "desktop" and Snow Leopard "desktop" are not allowed to be run in a virtual machine. The server versions of OSX do include Rosetta so from a legal standpoint, what you're asking is currently possible if you use the server versions of OSX. However the cost for OSX Server is $500 so for most people, this is not a practical solution.

Apple has not mentioned if they will ever change the EULA for OSX "desktop", so don't hold your breath.

But it was also asked if it can be done legally. Parallels states in their KB article 112323:

Leopard nor Snow Leopard are not supported to be run on Parallels Desktop virtual machines. That is prohibited by Apple's licensing policy.

You may have misread the system requirements.

For instance, if we look at Parallels Desktop 7 for Mac System Requirements, we can see that among non-server Mac operating systems only Lion can be installed as guest OS. Note the Server words in the below list:

No pro bono work from you, it would seem. If you're going to infer upon your legal expertise, then the additional info about doing things legally should have been a red flag for you, and that you ignore red flag imples things about your legal expertise. 😐

FULL DISCLOSURE: I own an iPhone and I use it on the T-Mobile network in the USA.

And your point? Using an iPhone on the T-Mobile USA network is not illegal, particularly now that Apple sells unlocked iPhones.

And that has nothing to do with the topic of this thread, including the part that you edited out (which was not illegal anyway, so there still was no point in your posting it.)

See you in court, counselor. 😁

OK, Asatoran, let's have at it!

Section 2 of the Snow Leopard EULA states (in part): "you are granted a limited non-exclusive license to install, use and run one (1) copy of the Apple Software on a single Apple-branded computer at a time."

I purchased a new July 2011 Mac Mini with Lion installed; I did not purchase a Lion upgrade of my Snow Leopard on my MacBook Pro.

I also purchased another copy of the Snow Leopard installation DVD with the intention of upgrading my old Mac Mini, which continues to run Leopard, not Snow Leopard; hence I have an unused copy of the Snow Leopard installation DVD.

How does my implimentation of running Snow Leopard on Parallels 7 within Lion on my new Mac Mini violate the EULA?

You apparently have not read through the thread:

And not replies to your post:

So it is in fact Parallels that is telling you that you can't do that (legally anyway.)

But if you install Snow Leopard Server in the virtual machine, that is perfectly legal. That is in fact what I do in a VMware Fusion virtual machine.

BUZZZZZ! I'm sorry, but you did not answer my question.

The TOPIC is "Will Apple allow us to run Snow Leopard in a virtual environment??"

So I repeat:

How does my implimentation of running Snow Leopard on Parallels 7 within Lion on my new Mac Mini violate the EULA?

HINT: That Parallels article may refer to a different fact situation and now be incorrect in this situation.

Since you do are not able to read that it is Parallels that is telling you that it is a violation of Apple's EULA, then I have to question your ability to understand anything else that will follow. You can claim all you want, and I would encourage you to actually file a suit against Apple, Parallels and VMware to have the matter clarified. Because again, you appear to be too dense to understand that arguing with me, someone who has already stated that I do not fully agree with Parallel's & VMware's interpretation of the EULA, is counter productive. (IOW, I am on your side as far as OSX's EULA is concerned, but you want to make an enemy of me. But if you had read through the thread first, you would have known this.)

So if you think you are a better lawyer that what Parallels and VMware have hired, go right ahead and file a suit. Why bother wasting your energy fighting me, someone who agrees with your position? If you win against me, that will change Parallel's and VMware's interpretation? I didn't know I was that special. 😎 😁

Asatoran:

Your knowledge of computers is obviously very broad.

I am sorry if you wish to continue your personal attack on me, and consequently this will be my last post with you on this subject:

1. You continue to fail to answer my question; how my factual situation violates Apple's EULA. A broad statement made by employees on a technical support knowledgebase is not necessarily a statement by that company's lawyers.

2. I do not care whose side you are on; your opinion is also irrelevant to my question.

3. Last time I checked, I do not have to file a lawsuit to continue conduct that does not violate Apple's EULA.

The source of my "attitude" against you was your original unwarranted attack on me personally in an earlier post.

Best of luck to you!

You are most humorous. You still fail to read exactly where I answered your questions, as I said you would. You only see attack because you do not appear to accept that you could be wrong. Since you refuse to read (or you really are that unable to comprend what you read,) thus you refuse to understand and continue the antagonism, I will concur with your inference to discontinue our part of the discussion. 😐
