I've done this, but, when I try to run the new .mpkg package, I get the same message that it can't do this!
Actally, I amgetting so confused about what i am doin and fear I am building up a ot of debris on my computer, I am going to leave this for a few days and try to come at it fresh.
incidentally,if I did a complete re-install of the system, would it not immediately update itself to the dreaded 10.6.8?
Thanks for all the help on this. I shall probably end up trying to do a re-install (I guess having VMWare Fusion allowing me access to Windows 7 may cause me some headaches) but am having a few days off to get the garden in shape and to keep my better half quiet!!
Just to say that I have not walked off an left this - but domestic pressures have prevented me from spending time on the computer.
I have a linked question, however, I have not been doing backups, which I shall need to do before making any real changes and I should be doing anyway.
I insert a disc into the drive, click on "time machine", unlock it, click on "select back up disc" and I get a blank list not showing the disc I have put in. Should I format the disc somehow first, or is a special type of disc required, or what?
sorry to "bust in".
this is a case of confusion: the "zipped" file is hqx. unzipped is still has the hqx extension. unzip further and you come in ds_store's recommendations, which solve the problem posted.
TheUnarchiver is the most all-round unarchiver, and fast.
Funny though, under Windows these extensions are handled by the driver installer itself.
You can't backup with TM to a DVD, coxwalls. Has to be an external HD, preferably somewhat bigger than your internal one.
Have a read of Pondini's Time Machine FAQs; http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/FAQ.html
I have downloaded the Stuffit Expander. But, when I try the .hqx file I get
A Failure had occurred - Unspecified Stuffit Engine internal error
If Stuffit fails as well as ArchiveHelper, it may be a corrupted file. Are you able to download it again?
I have just tried downloading and opening an hqx file which I have previous done successfully. This time it refused to open. It looks as if I have changed something in the computer to bar them.
Have you done any recent updates?
OK - done that. But, still the same problem.
You are being patient with me! Thanks
System wide. I created a new administrator account and logged into it (feeling very proud of succeeding!), re-downloaded the Kyocera driver; but, no go. So I am now back onto my original account,
I got all excited. This programme unpacked my hqx file into an .mpkg
But, when I tried to open that got
The operation couldn't be completed (com.apple.installer.pagecontroller error -1.)
Thanks for that. When life returns to normal I shall give it a whirl!
Well, if you use TheUnarchiver it is "easy", as I said:
unzip the hqx, unzip the resulting hqx, unzip the resulting mpkg (which will still not "work"), the resulting mpkg will work.... 😝
