3rd Generation ipod touch ios 4.3.4 won't connect to any wi-fi network.

My ipod touch model MC008LL worked fine until I updated to ios 4.3.4. Now It identifies networks but shows no IP Address, Subnet Mask etc. for any network at home or away.

I updated my ipad to 4.3.4 at the same time and it works fine on my home network.

To clarify the problem:

Settings>General>Network>Wi-Fi> "Choose a Network" shows me a list of available networks including the signal strength bars, lock symbol, and blue arrow buttons.

When I press the blue button for any network including my home net, public nets, and those of neighbors, the screen shows DHCP highlighted and HTTP Proxy Off. IP Address, Subnet Mask,Router, DNS, Search Domains, Client Domains, Client ID are all Blank with no numbers at all.

I have reset ipod with the on button and home button.

I have reset the Network Settings under Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings, and Reset All Settings.

Any suggestions?

It's not surprising that your IP address is blank if your router rejected your password and you were unable to join the network. Are you sure that you are entering the password correctly (upper/lower case is significant). Are you sure that it is the correct password?

There were no WiFi changes in 4.3.4. It's just a fix for a security problem due to the mis-handing of certain maliciously crafted PDF files.

If you continue to have problems you might want to consider restoring your iPod iOS 4.3.4. via iTunes.

I tried just about everything and finally brought my Ipod touch to the apple store. The tech installed ios 4.3.5 but still no WIFI. He recommended a $149 exchange - not really a bad deal with a new battery and 90 day warranty, but I thought I'd try again.

The "solution" was bizarre. On YouTube was a fix involving taking the motherboard out and heating the wifi components with a heat gun.

I did not like that idea, but another involved turning it off, putting it in the freezer for five minutes and restarting. It worked! I must admit the fix does not work reliably, so I may still go for the exchange. Still, I am now convinced that it is a hardware problem. i remember back in the old days, TV repairmen sprayed a suspected bad resistor with Freon. The chilled component would work long enough to identify what needed replacement. Perhaps something similar is happening here.

For anyone wanting to try this, I found it more convenient to place the back of my ipod on a frozen cold pack until the wifi is restored. It seems to happen when condensation forms on the face. I used a towel to wipe off the moisture so as not to add to the problem.
