Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT

Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

Anyone with an Nvidia Quadro 4000 try running Lion yet? Does it work?

I emailed both Nvidia AND Apple about the compatibility of the Quadro 4000 graphics card and OSX Lion but I couldn't get a straight answer from either. I know that Snow Leopard didn't have native support for the card, but Nvidia had a driver update that had to be downloaded first before installing the card. Currently there isn't a driver update on Nvidia's website for Lion and Apple won't say if Lion includes native support for the card.

So....anyone with a Quadro 4000 tried it with Lion yet?

Why not just clone your system and test Lion on its own drive?

And copy the installer off to flash drive etc in the process.

One way to find out, might even reapply the 10.6.8 driver while I think 10.7 will be and is for now in its more public beta phase if you will.

also, tend to see reports posted on a couple sites:

Is the Quadro 4000 the only graphics card in your machine? Do you still have the original graphics card?

My Mac Pro came with the Radeon 5770 and I replaced it with the 4000. I ran both cards together at first but I didn't notice any difference in rendering speeds, so I took the 5770 out.

If you still have your original card you could try rebooting with it and loading the NVIDIA driver for the 4000, then put the 4000 back in and reboot. According to NVIDIA's website you're supposed to install the drivers for the 4000 before putting the card in, so maybe this is the problem.

back again...

I sold the original AMD card :-(

I installed Lion from a USB CF-Reader and migrated from my iMac so everything is up and running again...

Currently my MP is running Lion with the original drivers that are crappy but... I hope that either Apple or nvidia comes with a new driver.

From the nvidia support came an answer that if I had installed old drivers I should remove them and work with the built-in drivers from Lion - weren't they listening? I told them, that the drivers are sh.. and they tell me to use them as the only solution - ***!?

Thank you anyway ljpiii1!
