Since upgrading to 10.7 - Volume Control Buttons sometimes don't work

I just upgraded to 10.7 Lion and have the following problem.

Some times my Macbook Pro 13 (Mid 2010) don't let me control the volume with the vol up and down buttons. The speaker symbol appears

while pressing the buttons but the speaker is greyed out. While that, sound plays with the last adjusted volume.

Most times the problem appears after standby mode.

A restart don't help in my case! Sound settings are all correct. I tried to shut down, restart in Win 7 via Bootcamp, restarted in OS X Lion.

Still no sound control available :-(

So I've searched the web.. It seems the goal is to reset Core Audio Daemon :

Open Terminal, type in or copy :

sudo kill -9 `ps ax|grep 'coreaudio[a-z]' |awk '{print $1}'`

type in your password and confirm - voila : volume control works again!

But this is very annoying, because the last 5 years i've used os x i've never had a problem like this!

Is this a known problem ? Any known workarounds or patches available ?

Hope anybody can help and/or Apple fixes asap!

I have upgraded my Mc Pro, iMac and they have no problem at all. Only my MBP having this issue (mid 2009) , even my daughter's 2007 MBP des not have the problem

I believe it is causing by 64bit driver which does not get properly roll up during the boot up , until a headphone get connected, which get dectected and the driver got roll.

I have taken a look on this issue, and this is what I think :-

1. It is not a hardware issue otherwise rolling back to 10.6.8. Will no work.

2. I saw a little metal “click” on the top of the entrance hole of audio in/out jack, a short term solution is either to insert an earphone or an optical cable and uplug it afterward, which would drive to run the audio driver.

3. Hence, I believe there is a problem only with certain model of MBP, after upgrading to Lion the software fails to “click on” the audio driver of the volume control.

Before, Apple to release the new update to fix this issue, I always insert an Tousling to mini optical adapter (without cable), which helps.

Me again. Problem solved...

I followed the instruction by using the terminal command: sudo kill -9 `ps ax|grep 'coreaudio[a-z]' |awk '{print $1}'`

I made an AppleScript which start while logging in.. Added Script in SignIn-Objects in User Account Options.

So u just need to type your password again to restart CoreAudio... I did that for about 2 or 3 days and now the problem seems to get solved by its own. Don't need that script anymore.. it's working.

If somebody want that little Script for boot-up -> email me: geisler.marco@gmx.ch
