Since upgrading to 10.7 - Volume Control Buttons sometimes don't work

I just upgraded to 10.7 Lion and have the following problem.

Some times my Macbook Pro 13 (Mid 2010) don't let me control the volume with the vol up and down buttons. The speaker symbol appears

while pressing the buttons but the speaker is greyed out. While that, sound plays with the last adjusted volume.

Most times the problem appears after standby mode.

A restart don't help in my case! Sound settings are all correct. I tried to shut down, restart in Win 7 via Bootcamp, restarted in OS X Lion.

Still no sound control available :-(

So I've searched the web.. It seems the goal is to reset Core Audio Daemon :

Open Terminal, type in or copy :

sudo kill -9 `ps ax|grep 'coreaudio[a-z]' |awk '{print $1}'`

type in your password and confirm - voila : volume control works again!

But this is very annoying, because the last 5 years i've used os x i've never had a problem like this!

Is this a known problem ? Any known workarounds or patches available ?

Hope anybody can help and/or Apple fixes asap!

Macbook pro 13inch mid 2009 , same issue , no sound control post 10.7 upgrade although speakers do work .

decided after scouring the internet to erase my SSD and do a clean install of lion ( created a USB key with lion image ) .

Lion installed in 15 minutes and bingo ,sound controls working , felt chuffed with myself .

Shut system down went to bed after my nightshift .

Awoke 4 hours later ,switch system on and guess what !!!! you got it , no sound control ,all greyed out again .

Applied the pseudo thing as above in the terminal window ( i'm not very mac technical being an old windows user since windows 3.1 but now a mac convert haha ) and bingo again , sound control is working .

fingers crossed that apple provide the permanant solution to this annoying issue .

Thanks for your response, so what we can conclude is, that it seems to be a 13" MBP specific problem. Does

anybody elese with an other Apple Model have the same problem ? I installed and tried Lion today on a 17" MBP Mid 2010, no problem here.

Hope Apple is observing this discussion! Does one of you having still support with a Apple Care Protection Plan ? If yes, eventually you can point the support personnel to this discussion.
