Hi,
First of go to the iChat Manu > Preferences > General Section.
Deselect the item that links Buddy List together.
Now go to the Account section.
Apart from the Bonjour Account, is any Other Accounts marked as Use this Account ?
For AIM Logins and Jabber (Google/Facebook) this is in the Account Info tab (The Yahoo one in iChat 6 only have one Pane (No Tabs)
If not tick the box.
Close the Preferences.
In the iChat Menu > Accounts are any Accounts showing as Ticked (Logged in) ?
Do these same Accounts show in the Window Menu ?
Using the Red button on a Buddy List to try and close the app does not work. You specifically have to Quit it.
However if you did close the Buddy list iChat will remember where the Buddy List (Or any other Window) when the app was Quit.
If the Window for the Buddy List was Closed it will remain ""Hidden".
If the account is Ticked in the iChat Menu > Accounts and shows in the Window Menu use the Window Menu keystrokes to bring it into view.
Further to this iChat 6 is effected by the setting in System Preferences > General Pane that reads something about opening apps with all the windows that were open when it was Quit.
It works for all apps and is useful in iChat to keep a Text Chat "on Top" when you reopen the app (by having it open when you last Quit).
As I have said it will also remember windows that are closed before Quit and keep them hidden on re-launching the app.
