Anyone having problems with ichat after lion install?

I just installed Lion and having problems getting iChat to work. It won't signon to my aim account. I tried deleting all accounts and restarting.

I had the plugin Chax install which is an extension to iChat. I was wondering if anyone else was having problems?

Thanks

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7)

Hi,

First of go to the iChat Manu > Preferences > General Section.

Deselect the item that links Buddy List together.

Now go to the Account section.

Apart from the Bonjour Account, is any Other Accounts marked as Use this Account ?

For AIM Logins and Jabber (Google/Facebook) this is in the Account Info tab (The Yahoo one in iChat 6 only have one Pane (No Tabs)

If not tick the box.

Close the Preferences.

In the iChat Menu > Accounts are any Accounts showing as Ticked (Logged in) ?

Do these same Accounts show in the Window Menu ?

Using the Red button on a Buddy List to try and close the app does not work. You specifically have to Quit it.

However if you did close the Buddy list iChat will remember where the Buddy List (Or any other Window) when the app was Quit.

If the Window for the Buddy List was Closed it will remain ""Hidden".

If the account is Ticked in the iChat Menu > Accounts and shows in the Window Menu use the Window Menu keystrokes to bring it into view.

Further to this iChat 6 is effected by the setting in System Preferences > General Pane that reads something about opening apps with all the windows that were open when it was Quit.

It works for all apps and is useful in iChat to keep a Text Chat "on Top" when you reopen the app (by having it open when you last Quit).

As I have said it will also remember windows that are closed before Quit and keep them hidden on re-launching the app.

It would seem to as it is mentioned in thread from August to Novemeber 2011 (digitalColeman's entry above yours in Threaded view).

I had to kill the imagent process to get ichat to let me login, and this seems to make sense since about %50 of the time i send or recive images over bonjour ichat will crash. Even tho it crashes, it leaves the imagent running.

The consistent fix for me is to do a ps -ax | grep imagent and then just kill the imagent process. Once I do that iChat will connect to everything fine through the VPN.

Nope sorry. That made no difference what so ever. My only 100% works every time is to go to Activity Monitor and force quite the imagent.

Hopefully this bug will be fixed in the next update of Lion.

Note to others.

This was posted before I got my Lion iMac.

iChatAgent in OS X 10.6.x and earlier is iChat Only.

In Lion IMAgent does both FaceTime and iChat Logins.

Even with 10.7.3 installed there is no way I can get iChat working over VPN, while I have full internet access over VPN (when I go to whatismyip.com, I now get the public IP from the server). Only the connection to my iChat Server on Lion is somehow confused. I have quit the IMagent process and iChat to no avail.

How to fix the routing issue?

If this is a a question about iChat Server it may pay to ask in the server fourms.

iChat Server and VPNs are beyond my knowledge.
