Upgraded to Lion, now I can't open Appleworks, Office or Quicken, Upgraded to Lion, now I can't open Appleworks, Office or Quicken

Since upgrading this morning now I learn Lion does not work with; Appleworks, Office or Quicken. Are you kidding me? A Mac that won't run Appleworks? how do I open files now?

As of August 15, 2007, AppleWorks has reached end-of-life status, and is no longer being sold.[1] Word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation applications with capabilities similar to AppleWorks are currently sold as the iWork suite.

How old are your Quicken and office applications?

Appleworks is a Rosetta program and Rosetta doesn't work on Lion.

The other two programs need a update/upgrade when one becomes avaiallbe.

BackupLionBootable 10.7 Disk

Purchaseanddownload Lion from the Mac App Store on any Lion compatibleMacrunning Snow Leopard.

  1. Right click on “Mac OS X Lion” installer and choose the option to “Show Package Contents.”
  2. Inside the Contents folder that appears you will find a SharedSupport folder and inside the SharedSupport folder you will find the “InstallESD.dmg.” This is the Lion boot disc image we have all been waiting for.
  3. Copy “InstallESD.dmg” to another folder like the Desktop.
  4. Launch Disk Utility and click the burn button.
  5. Select the copied “InstallESD.dmg” as the image to burn, insert a standard sized 4.7 GB DVD, and wait for your new Lion Boot Disc to come out toasty hot.

With this disc you can boot any Lion compatible Mac, andinstall10.7 just like you installed previous version of Mac OS X. Youcaneven use Disk Utility's Restore function to image your Lion bootdiscimage onto a external drive suitable for performing a cleaninstallon a optical-drive-less MacBook Air, or Mac mini server.

If your using Mac's in a mission critical type environment or have third party hardware or software you must rely upon working correctly. It'sadvised to wait until all the bugs, driver updates, third partysoftware updates and other issues are resolved before upgrading. Thismight take several months. Then if you do so, do one machine at atime and carefully test everything before full deployment.

It's also highly advised to backup all one's data either manually to aexternal powered drive in addition to TimeMachine and Hold optionbootable Carbon Copy Clones etc.

I have been using Quicken on Apple computers for 20 years, I upgraded to Quicken 2007 just a few months ago after trying Quicken Essentials for a few weeks which was awful. Is there another alternative to Quicken for Mac?

There are many many alternatives to Quicken. Open the Mac App Store and look under Finance. Recently I switched from Quicken 2007 to iBank which has been succesful. If you are interested in that app there is a free 30 day trial, online tutorials and tech support. For my needs I liked it for yours do a little research until you find an alternative to Quicken.

will ibank look for the quicken files and import them even after upgrading to Lion?

Lion has nothing to do with it, as long as the Quicken file is still on the system then sure it should be fine. Take a look at their web site and if you have specific questions about their app I'd recommend contacting them, they're the experts and will shoot straight with you.

I don't think so I was looking at the tutorial for importing Quicken files and it clearly says they must be exported to a .Qif file first. If you have another Mac or access to one you can install Quicken on it, do the export and then once you have the file move it to the Lion machine and import it.

You can also contact iBank's manufacturer and see if they have any other solutions. You can reach their support at: http://www.iggsoftware.com/support.php. Send them an email and they will reply within 24 hours.
