Lion, App store download problems

Anyone else having trouble downloading Lion from the App store? I've paid for it, it tells me I've paid for it but trying to download it sits there for 5 minutes with a 'Waiting' message over its icon in the taskbar then stops. There's an error in the list of purchased items next to Lion, "an error has occurred" . Helpful. downloaded a couple of free apps just to test, that seems to be fine. Lion only. Oddly, while it's sitting there waiting, despite there being no apparent network activity in the Activity Monitor, it's hammering my internet.

yes, I know, under normal circumstances but it's not telling me it's too busy, it's telling me there's an error. It could be anything, it's extremely likely that coming back later still won't work.

I would expect that if it is server hammering there'd be many other people experiencing the same thing but there appears not to be. Apple support are being singularly unhelpful.

I am having the exact same issue...and I know it's not an account issue because I got Lion installed on another computer without a problem. It just never will start the download. Says "Waiting..." sometimes and then straight to "An error has occurred" which is most unhelpful. Apple Care, as well, has unfortunately been able to do anything about this either.

I cancelled the download by clicking with two fingers on the Lion in the dock!! Then installing again from the purchased list in App Store. I had been waiting far too long for the download to start. It kept saying 'waiting'. By cancelling then restarting the download it worked instantly. I have still got to wait about two hours for the download to complete but it is downloading as i write. 900mb of 3.74gb. Now the question is 'Do i wait up or go to sleep and hope its all ready to try in the morning??'

I'm also having the same problem. I've been trying to download it all day almost every half hour. I've tried canceling the download and then restarting it, but all that does is get rid of the obligatory "error message." I appreciate such a wonderfully priced piece of software being in high demand, but it's not like it's moving slow. It's not downloading at all. This has got to be some sort of Mac App store problem because I just finished a bunch of software updates (in an attempt to fix whatever was hampering my progress with downloading Lion) and I had zero issues downloading the nearly half a gig of updates in just a couple minutes. Perhaps there is a glitch in the downloading processes in the Mac App store that doesn't recognize the internet connection I have or the location of the file itself. I'm able to download other programs from the App store without any issue, so I'm leaning towards something related to downloading this specific file. This is just speculation, of course, but I'm just very frustrated and would like some answers and not some arbitrary and ambiguous "error message."
