Does Photoshop CS4 work in Lion?

I'm new to the Mac so I just wanted to make sure, thanks!

I have the same rpoboem as reifer and edonmac: there is no file named "com.apple.LaunchServices.plist" to be found on my imac. So I have no solution. I am about regretting the hole imac purchase because my photoshop is crucial to me. It never daunted to me that apple would even dream about creating an operating system incompatible with any photoshop version. Very sorry customer.

I have the same situation as those above. I was running PS CS4 in Rosetta mode under SL that was set automatiically at install. I have applied the JAVA fixes kindly recommended above, and I do not have the plist in my library to delete, as also kindly recommended above. I have uninstalled and reinstalled PS CS4 a number of times. I agree that having run in Rosetta in the past must be the reason this is happening, as the other programs in the CS4 Design Suite are running o.k. and I know that other people are running CS4 in Lion o.k. I presume that those lucky folks were not running CS4 in Rosetta mode and don't have the problem. I have downloaded in 30 day eval of PS CS5 and hope that the powers that be at Apple get this solved quicky so that I don't have to plunk another $200 down with no real need or benefit in order to get my work done!

Your problems are at an end. Here's the kindly message sent to me from someone on the photoshop forum. My photoshop is all working fine now.

I think you may have been looking for the com.apple.launchservices.plist file in the system library. The file is located in your user library which is hidden by default in Lion.

In order to "unhide" the library folder you will need to open the Terminal app and enter the following command:

chflags nohidden ~/Library/

Here is a more detailed explanation:

Now go to your home folder and your user library folder should now be visible. Then just navigate to your preference folder locate and delete the com.apple.launchservices.plist file. Now reboot and photoshop should launch.

I noticed Droplets don't work on my iMac with 10.7 and Photoshop cs4-purging the plist file as instructed here and rebooting doesn't help. I get the PPC error message same as everybody else, when clicking the droplet icon which has the "cancelled" icon over it. So add me to the list of really ticked customers!

Yes, but quit Safari because it slows down Photoshop CS4 to a crawl (and the Mac in general)!

Sorry, I don't understand your connection between Safari and Photoshop. I run both CS4 and CS5 with only a 2.1ghz processor and 3GB Ram and always have mail and Safari open as well. My computer is running better than any previous OSX, so I think it is your system that may need attention.

Good Luck

Judie,

Thanks to AISolve over on the Adobe forum, we do have a solution to this problem:

Remove adobe PDF PPD from the following folders:

OS/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/en.lproj,

OS/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/Zh_CN.lproj,

OS/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/Ja.lproj,

OS/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/ko.lproj,

OS/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/Zh_TW.lproj

To get to the system library, in the main Finder window select Go >> Go to Folder from the menu bar, and type in ~/Library.

Good luck!

I went to my system folder etc. and found I have none of these files under Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/

User uploaded fileUser uploaded fileinstead I have compressed:" LaserWriter 4_600 PS.gz" and more, similar compressed files.

Navigating via the Finder and selecting GO and typing in ~/Library sent me to my own printer folder which has no PPD/Resources(it's not a laser printer).

So that's a dead in the water solution!

Right about the user library, but you missed the beginning comment I made about actually being in the correct OS Library folder:

My best advice then is to hop on over to the original Adobe discussion forum where I found this fix from AISolve to the crashing when printing problem Judie described. You can private message AISolve and explain the problem you're experiencing, and I'm sure he'll get back with you. He was very helpful, both on the discussion board, and to me personally in several private messages, and I've not had a problem since. You'll note that the original question was about CS3 and Lion, but I'm running CS4, and the fix worked for me. Here's the link:

Good luck!
