if airdrop does not work from my mac pro, then how does my apple tv2 work then?
AirDrop requires a newer Airport card that has capabilities the older one does not offer. The ATV 2 does not require this.
Isn't there a way to upgrade you Airport card so that it has this capabilities. Not software wise because if it was a software update then it would've been pushed out by now.
So is it possible to go to my apple store and upgrade my Airport card or something like that?
Yes, there's this from Macworld http://www.macworld.com/article/162407/2011/09/airdrop_any_mac.html but do note there are some security concerns if you use it over a public wi-fi system.
To clarify, the Macworld article tells how to do it without upgrading your Airport card.
Airdrop will work on older Mac models than the official list provided by Apple.
You can enable it in older models:
(1) Use Oynx to turn it on (Oynx is a Mac utility to turn on hidden features on the Mac):
* download the latest version of Oynx: http://www.titanium.free.fr/download.php
* make sure you use the correct version of Oynx that corresponds to your MacOSX version
* (You have to use Tiger, MacOSX 10.7 to use AirDrop)
* In Oynx, click "Parameters" icon,
* then click "Misc" button on the tab
* then check the "Force enabling AirDrop" checkmark to turn it on.
or
(2) If you are geeky enough, go to Terminal and type this line:
defaults write com.apple.NetworkBrowser BrowserAllInterfaces 1
Then re-log/relaunch Finder.
