I have an early 2008 macbook pro (Macbook Pro 4,1).
In Lion, the only way to right-click is using ctrl+click. If I select "Secondary click" in System Preferences/Trackpad, it gets automatically un-selected when I exit System Preferences. This is very frustrating. Any idea how to fix it?

I think I figured this out, you need to have "Tap to Click" enabled otherwise secondary clck doesn't work. I have an early 2008 MBP and now secondary click works!!

Info for everybody in Lion:
If in prefs you have for left-click - one-finger tap so for right-click two-finger tap will work for you.
If in prefs you have for left-click - left-click ON A TOUCHPAD BUTTON so for right-click you have to click ON A TOUCHPAD BUTTON with TWO fingers!

After doing the command lines my right-click still didn't wasn't working, but your beaut tip about enabling 'Tap to click' worked for me also.

go to system preference --> trackpad - make sure that "secondary click" is checked, in the drop down box (it defaults to "click or tap with two fingers" - change it to "click to bottom right corner" and now you can "right click" on stuff w/o going through terminal or holding down any keys =)
Yep. Two fingers, tap once. works on everything.
So with a 2009 MacBook with El Capitan installed, I no longer see the option to right-click using a corner.
So I have no way to right-click anymore except with ctrl-click.
Any fix?
